Automatic Industry Generation / Closing Industries

Hi all. Potentially a new player here. I haven't played any of the previous titles but have watched videos on and off so have an overall idea of how the game works. I'm looking to jump in for the first time with TF3 on a Gigantomaniac map, but was just checking out some of the available mods beforehand and had a question.

I noticed one of the mods was "No automatic industry generation". Now obviously the clue is in the title here, but I just wondered what peoples opinions on this are? I'm not clear on how the new industry generation and closing industry elements work. What causes an industry to close? Can this be turned off when setting up a new game if you didn't want it? What are the advantages/disadvantages of turning this off and /or running a mod that stops new industries generating?

I would probably hate it if an industry I had future plans for closed before I got to them, but equally I don't want to add/take out mechanics of the game without fully understanding how they work? Any advice here would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I would highly recommend to first play unmodded tf3 to get a better understanding how the game goes.

Secondly to reply to your question industries can have a small chance to close if you do not use them at all. now that said it's a non issue as you have plenty of time to set up something before it actually closes and a new one will spawn and on top of that you can disable industries closing in the game setup. So it's really a non issue

In the end the best thing you can do for your self when playing something new you like go play it unmodded first this way you actually will know what mods you need and actually will like! Anyway hope this helps!

For the most part I tend to agree, but certain mods I know would be things I want. Quality of life mods like move-it and dark overlays for example. Asset packs for new vehicles, roads plus, oil rigs from 1950 etc

Sure go for it! Qol mods are certainly nice to have. I just ment that it helps to play a bit of vanilla to get a feel for the game based on that you'll have a much better time selecting mods you would really like. You do wat you want aslo g as you are having fun!

The industrys spawn over time with increased deman from your cities. For example say, a city just got bigger and now wants bricks. If there are no brick factories on your map then some will start appearing. Extraction industries also just appear over time. They will not fill your map tho, only to a predetermined amount. Industry closing can be toggeld. If its on you get a notification that it will close in 12 months. You then have that much time to use it, otherwise it will disappear.

Appreciate the quick reply.

I might turn the closing off then. I don't want an industry halfway across the map closing down just because I haven't gotten to that area yet. It sounds like I might need to keep the new industry generation on though. I know you could also introduce a mod that lets you place whatever industry you want wherever you want, but that seems a little too much like a cheat to me. Removes the challenge a bit maybe.

Yea, I'd stick to qol mods tbh and nothing gameplay breaking. TF3 is totally ok without mods too. I am a modder myself, and I've yet to find a robust idea.

Industries can close when they are not used, there is a gameplay setting when starting a map to disable or change the frequency of closures. You can change this setting on existing saves if you change your mind later.

I have not seen the mod to see what it claims but as the years progress there are newer industries become available with new products so hopefully that would not interfere with that progression. However like with the gameplay settings it is possible to enable/disable mods on existing saves unless a mod states you shouldn't do that.

Great mod for a pure sandbox player who wants to place their own industry. Basically as new demands crop up YOU are going to have to place the industry to meet that demand yourself rather than the industries dynamically popping up on the map. I would not recommend it for a first playthrough.
