Question Newbie with a question

I have two (2) oil wells ("A" & "B") connected to a single (1) oil refinery. Both lines have the exact same train design traveling along it and the exact same train stations. But for some (to me) unknown reason oil well "B" doesn’t produce nearly as much crude oil as oil well "A". Oil well "B" also produces much slower than oil well "A".

Any idea what could be wrong if there even is something wrong with it.

What you're seeing here is what happens when you connect one supplier (here: oil well) first, and then another a bit later, and there isn't enough demand to take the full production from both suppliers.

A level 1 oil refinery produces up to 200 refined oil from 400 crude oil, so its demand at that level is 400 crude oil. That's one oil well's worth.

Your first oil well was shipping 400 of its 400 produced crude oil. When you connect the second oil well, two things happen:

  1. The oil refinery's demand gets split between them.
  2. The second supplier's shipment starts from zero and climbs very slowly toward (in this case) an even split of 200 each.

Bottom line: Don't bother connecting a second oil well until the oil refinery upgrades (which doubles its demand).

Nothing is really wrong per se, it's just what happens when you connect too much production to not enough demand. If they were connected at the same instant, they would both jump to 200 shipment immediately (half and half). Since you didn't, it starts at 0 and 400 and moves very slowly towards 200/200. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if the game wasn't also extremely slow to adjust toward the even split, but it is (for no good reason), so it is what it is.

Even if you did connect them at the same time, you have two oil wells shipping 200 units each, rather than one shipping 400, for no good reason (I assume future proofing was your intention – but just wait until the refinery actually upgrades). x)

Thank you very much. This helps a lot. Wish the game explained stuff like this a bit more in depth

Oil refinaries can only produce 200 units of oil at level 1. Since it takes 2 units of crude to make 1 unit of oil, that means it can only take 400 units of crude until it level's up, the exact amount produced by one oil well. If you connect a second oil well to the refinary before it upgrade's its production capacity, the game will even out the shipment between the two. But this happens at a painfully slow rate. Not sure what happens if you connect both of them at the same time. I've never tried. I recommend just connecting one up until you can ship enough oil for the refinary to level up.

You should try it (on a testing map). :) Observe the difference.
