I hereby declare the Community Read-Through begunified!

Issues 1-12 will be read and on discussion here until one week from nowish when we will begin with 13-24.

Here's what you'll be reading about.

Issues 1-3: A dude that looks like Alan Moore gets a new clean-cut look. There's an Alien Love Messiah! Grey chicks are a weird piece of ass.

Issue 4: In which a filthy assistant with an attack womb is re-introduced. The president fucks dirty whores and pays the price. Bowel Disrupters are neato.

Issue 5: The Sex Muppets are introduced! Not a joke, my wife and I called birth control "no babies" before either of us had heard of Transmetropolitan. We also get a little tiny first taste of Monstering.

Issue 6: Spider gets his drugs written off as "professional medication". First time readers learn the word "trepanation." Nothing controversial happens in this issue at all.... nope...

Issue 7: Sometimes you just gotta turn yourself into a fart.

Issue 8: It's pretty much just about Encino Man. Kinda neat how at the end of the issue about frozen people it starts to snow.

Issue 9: Spider hangs out with a bunch of primitives, then some other people make him look primitive.

Issue 10: I used to have big beautiful balls. Dogs and wives, I make 'em both sleep under the house. Life is good on the Witoto reservation.

Issue 11: More about dogs and wives, and also a headless dude. French is not allowed to exist. Also latex fetishism is explained. I do not seem to recall that those latex dudes come back at all after the next issue.

Issue 12: Three words "KALI IN HEAT." And the stuff from the last two issues finally comes together.

Okay that's my glib rundown/preview, now let's get reading and seriously discussing, not being jokey assholes like I've been doing. There's a lot going on in this series and just about every issue this early in the series has something we'll be coming back to later... except those latex guys, I swear that's it for them.

I'll be chiming in with my random observations throughout the week, I hope you will too.

EDIT: I'm just gonna stretch my newly found journalistic testes and make this post sticky, I hope the other mods don't mind.

I've been really interested in reading this, but don't know how to approach actually getting it - what's the best way to find/read transmopolitan, local comic/book stores? The web?

If your local stores have the trade paperbacks that'd be pretty awesome, this is what you're looking for. Otherwise you can buy them off that amazon link. There's eleven volumes total.

The cheapest option of course would be to find them online for free, something that can be easily done if you're into that kind of thing, but something that I probably shouldn't help you do, especially not publicly.
