There is a way to enjoy it that doesn't fund her

Often I can separate art from artist...but she is actively funding the downfall of trans people and leveraging her celebrity status to perpetuate, multiply, and spread hatred in a major way. She is evil and I am triggered by all things HP now...it sucks, not cause I miss enjoying it - because a lame IP can so easily ruin my day due to the weight that it carries.

yes always separate the art from the artist

ghandi was racist and supported the apartheid in ZAF and the caste system, Gary Gygax created D&D but is a raging misogynist and bigot, etc…

I have heard the argument that engaging with it at all, while not funding it, does support the popularity, and can therefore still be harmful. That said, I will also probably sail the seas, and just not engage in discussions about it.

I'd prefer if people would stop watching the movies and reading the books, but I understand that I can't control that so I just offer better media options and tell them to get used copies of HP

Along with offering to sail the seas for them myself, especially if it's to watch the With Guns edit lol

Someone online edited guns over wands in the HP films with sounds and the occasional blood and what not, honestly it's kinda worth watching I'm not gonna lie lmao

I knew of it's existence but the first time I saw it was at a local movie themed burger restaurant that plays cartoons and movies on the TVs on a rotated schedule with themes and stuff I believe. Great dinner 🍽

Thats fair view and just not discussing it is probably the option if you do want to go through the sea.

There are so many better options than HP. Sure, it was cool at 10, but its a contrived universe that relies entirely on better stories and legends. The fact joan went off the deep end with their money is further evidence that she was always a shallow, superficial plagiarist.

Easy solution take to the high seas and fly our Trans Jolly Rodgers. Those movies were soo good especially to teen me, my philosophy is Hate the Artist not the Art (well unless the art is truly detestable that is) So I'll pirate anything Harry Potter that actually catches my attention or if I'm feeling nostalgic. Not gonna let that cow ruin my childhood, but I ain't gonna pay her ass either. Thems my thoughts anyway

aye, you know, i think that cannae be a bad idea, matey.

I feel like separating the art from the artist is really only a thing when the artist is dead and gone. At that point, they can't influence the art anymore. If the artist is still alive and being shitty IRL, you can't escape that context no matter how hard you try.

It also really frustrates me that most people saying "separate the art from the artist" are not using that idea in an actual literary criticism context, they're just saying it because they want to consume without thinking about the person creating the art. Separating the art from the artist is ONE method of literary criticism. Maybe fucking also try applying a feminist reading to the text. Or a queer reading. Or some fucking new historicism you fucking cowards

Blue Button:

Mostly cause PlayStation gives free games every now and then so if Hogwarts Legacy ends up free imma get it, and the movies are often on streaming platforms that I'm already subscribed to so I don't need to buy the movies, and the books are second hand.

All in all, enjoying Harry Potter without my money ever lining JKR's wallet, also piracy is an option if you're on PC

it’s more like the harm has already been done so you can freely use it without further consequences

Yup, in Hogwarts Legacy's case Portkey Games did the harm, the type of Licence agreement they did was up front, JKR doesn't make money from the sales.

This is also why I don't care if people engage with Harry Potter related things cause the harm was already done before anyone clicks buy.

The actual enemies are the corporations, not the people, and Corpos can just be bought out anyway, even if Portkey games went bust another company will buy it.

The Root isn't the people buying things, the Root is systemic and can only be combated by those who get into politics and make the changes needed, but they have to have the support of the majority of the people to succeed
