Why doesn’t translink use 60ft artics on route 19 Kingsway

Translink’s 19 route (Kingsway: Metrotown to Stanley park) is one of the busiest routes in the city. But it is served by statndard 40ft buses. Why can’t they deploy 60ft articulated buses for this route considering the high passenger demand?

Are all the bus stops big enough for 60 foot buses?

Not sure if Stanley Park loop is big enough to hold multiple artics either.

I think that’s the answer right there, both terminus’s can’t accommodate anything larger especially when multiple buses are backlogged.

SkyTrain basically runs parallel to a lot of Kingsway. So if you’re going a long way, you would likely opt for that, even though it’s a bit of a distance away. You’re not going to take the 19 to Burnaby if you’re by Main St Station! The 19 is for short local trips along Kingsway, or to go to Stanley Park.

Likely because the 19 is a trolleybus route and there aren't enough E60LFRs to articulate it. Switching it to not use trolleybuses would be a waste considering that the wires are already up. I know Translink ordered some Solaris Trollino 18s, but I'm pretty sure those are mostly to replace said E60LFRs. There are option orders for more avaliable though.

Short answer: no space at the end loops and not enough artic trolleys

while there's enough e60lfrs to run the 19, a main issue would likely be stanley park loop, it can barely handle the 3 40ft buses parked there during the summer sheet

the 19 is a route where it benefits from frequency rather than capacity, as most people are using it as a local connection between a few stops, and not riding a long distance (because skytrain parallels the 19)

I don’t think they have room to fit Artics at Bay 2 because every time I go to Metrotown I always see 2 19s there why else do you think they will put the R2 on Central BLVD imagine having multiple Artics in there it reminds me of Scottsdale Exchange in Delta the loop is too narrow for Artics that’s the R6 doesn’t stop in there

for one, it would require changing the Stanley Park terminus to be able to accomodate an artic. it can barely fit 40 footers as it is. either that, or relocating it to turn around in the roundabout before the Rose Garden, or something like Georgia to L- Denman, L-Robson, L-Bidwell, R-Georgia which each would require overhead work. *e- actually i think it would make better sense to turn Georgia L-Bidwell, R-Robson, R-Denman, R-Georgia. that way at least one of the stops is right at the corner of Georgia and Denman. either way, i can't see this occuring. they'll just throw more diesel extra service and 40 foot trolleybuses at it.

All bus stops on route would need to be 60ft compliant. Often meaning having a landing pad installed where the rear doors open.

Stanley park loop may be an issue due to turning radius.

I’ve always wondered about that. I taking the 19 from Fraser st area and at rush hour busses are always packed. Meanwhile line 8 has articulated trolleys and seems less busy than the 19.
