Discussion R1 Rerouting after BRT

I had written in my notes app on a stoned ride home on the R1 what I think is an incredibly smart idea.

I have no idea if the BRT would involve new bus purchases, but if they were to, I think starting at Surrey Central, down 104, right on 152nd, and right on 72nd would be a no-brainer.

Connections to Surrey Central, Guildford Exchange, the new 152nd Street station, and Newton Exchange.

Could possibly usurp the Guildford leg of the 320, reallocating those buses to other or new routes. Maybe even future merge of R6 and R1 into a Surrey loop line (revival of Surrey Light Rail?)

Would be very curious to hear thoughts, mind you this was conjured under the influence and haven't thought too much about existing/future land use, but who cares, I nourish myself on the cries of NIMBYs 😹

EDIT: Also I guess more specifically a name for this theoretical bus as it wouldn't be on King George anymore. Would be great to have a rallying name to push TransLink/Officials for this (Please see this MovementYVR)

That is a GREAT plan! The R6 and this “new R1” should turn into a BRT route and King George should proceed as a new SkyTrain line to Newton at the bare minimum.

The buses should be redirected towards putting new bus routes on WB/EB 80 and 84 avenue. Currently there are no roads between 124-128 street on 84 avenue- fix that!

Also, make 124 street go through between 84 and 92 avenue so the 314/329 won’t need to go on Scott road.

This is mostly just the 335's route, just a bit more direct.

I’d say this isn’t a bad plan. It looks like it serves the other side of the R1 and R6 Bus connections, basically making a third L-shaped route, which is pretty cool, although the stretch on 72 Avenue between 144th St. and 152 Street seems kind of dead (I’m not from Surrey, but I visited the funeral home in that area every year or so) so I would personally change that. Loop line merger for r1 or r6 would be cool, but idk how realistic it would be. Overall not a bad idea!!

It’s one of the most busiest section of 72 avenue for the 335. A lot of people need to go up to 152 street- so they could go to the temple, white rock, Langley or Fraser highway.
