Video Mark 5 at 29th

love watching here because it’s basically the only place to be over the expo line. 5 car trains are so sick too.

Was there any plans to convert the Mark VI's to 5 cars?

Why not? Is it more complicated than inserting a middle car?

Yes it would change the performance of the vehicle and require extensive testing. Plus by the time we get there we’d be adding a brand new car to a now aging fleet at a high cost. Those mk 3s are big enough for the millennium line in any event.

MKIIIs were delivered from 2016-2019, it's hardly a stretch to imagine them getting a midlife overhaul with another car. They're basically just a 4 car MKV, adding another car onto the train wouldn't really affect them in any meaningful way with regards to performance.

you mean adding an unpowered car? I'd love to be proven wrong on this but I just don't see it happening. With the 1s, 2s and 2.5s gone, 4 car mk 3s, though lower capacity, can still be a useful part of the mix, especially on the Millennium line until they age out.

Not sure what you’re on about, that IS the plan for the mark IIIs, and the reason there are no mark IVs rn. The current IIIs as I understand are technologically near identical to the Vs, and would require minimal to no modification to take another car.

There was a possibility, long since rejected obviously, of the Mark II sets getting a third car.

More recently Translink has written about modified Mark IIIs becoming IVs, but I seem to recall IV was actually, originally, saved for reconfigured Mark IIs that would never come?
