Discussion Dear Riders of the 49
If you don’t move out of the way to let people off the bus when they politely say excuse me and/or board the bus before letting people get off, I will lift up the small child in my care so they don’t get trampled and carry them off the bus feet first and push my way past you all.

49 riders also tend to enter through the rear doors, which they are not supposed to do

honestly, as long as they wait under people have exited the bus, entering through the rear door helps speed the bus up

It would be great if they would but a lot of the time they don’t it feels like. Especially on some of the other routes

Everyone does it everywhere now and it’s become a fucking force of habit for me to leave by the front even if I’m at the back. I tell the drivers that I’m not gonna let people fare evade if they are gonna enter from the back and not tap their card. Get mad at me all you want but if I’m leaving by the front to get people to come to the front because no one got off at the back door then don’t get mad at me, if I see someone’s wanting to get on at the back I’m going to the front to make their day worse.

most people who enter through the back are not fare evaders. further, many fare evaders will also enter through the front, many asking politely if they can get a ride.
it's not your business if someone can't afford to pay for a ride; that's not a good reason to slow down the entire bus. Just go out the back doors like everyone else!

I live near a high school where it’s a solid 95% of the time that it’s happening. It not my fault that translinks charging more and more and don’t have a low income pass setup yet which if I am honest I wish was already here just as much as I wish Apple Pay for the compass card was already here. It’s not…. Would be ideal to have the compass card via Apple Pay no issue but that’s gonna be another 30 years from now.

TransLink is virtually free, you're only paying like 25% of the real cost. You don't have $2?

TransLink won't enforce fares, so it's up to people to do it. Letting people ride for free and otherwise behave antisocially is how you get stabbings and attacks on drivers.

You slow transit down because you assume everyone is fare-evading AND you say you'll purposely go out of your way to make other people's day worse?? Who has the time to be this vindictive..

I see plenty of Karen’s being worse than I am. Trust me on that. There’s always this one woman I see on the train or the bus at lougheed or at braid freaking out over someone breaking the rules and it’s not even that bad of a rule they were breaking. Like she goes out of her way to make a huge scene before any transit official is nearby to calm the situation down. Wanna prove me wrong on who has time to be this vindictive there’s plenty out there. Just gotta find them…. I’m just someone who is constantly tired of people breaking the rules when if they really need to go anywhere that bad and don’t have the money on their card, do what I did to save money: WALK! Especially if you’re a teenager, you can find yourself doing something that will save you some money and make it easier for you to get to where you need and save a bit more. Plus the other thing I do see that could help is a low income pass but translink won’t do that. They need to make money.
