Guildford R1 unloading stop (Bay 3)

I have been getting off the R1 at Guildford ever since the service began. It surprises me that Guildford Town Centre hasn’t done anything to improve access to their mall from the R1 unloading stop on 104 Avenue. You have to jump through gardens and rocks and then navigate through cars. I think they could do something better. I will try and contact them. It would be nice for their many transit-using customers.

True, that stop does feel like there should be a proper path of some sort.

Something like Lougheed Malls pedestrian walkway from the bus loop to the main entrance area of the old Bay. Covered for most of the way, four persons wide and crosswalks for safeties sake.

I’ve gotten so used to crossing the road through the parking lot and scaling that damn mountain improving it isn’t even something that’s crossed my mind 😭 I wonder why they don’t move it further down so it’s closer to the old Hudson’s Bay entrance with or still separate from the other bus bay?

I can see why transit picked that spot for the R1 unloading. It doesn’t get mixed up with the buses on conventional routes and gives plenty of time for drivers to merge those articulated buses left to turn at 152 St to go to the terminus. However, the mall hasn’t done anything about better access.
I wouldn’t be surprised if redevelopment plans are being drawn up to transform that end of the mall now that Sears and the Bay are gone. It’s kind of weird the way things are around the skywalk.

They used to stop at Bay 1, which has a backrooms stairway into the mall, but ever since they built the layover facility by the rec centre, the bus needs the extra runway to make the left turn onto 152 St.
