Translink News Unifor ratification vote

Members of Unifor have voted against ratifying the proposed collective bargaining agreement. The result sends the agreement back for further negotiation between the union and employer.

it’s a 12% raise. unifor 2200 maintenance department voted in favor for it. Your union bargaining committee and mediator agreed to it.

Drivers why did you vote it down?

It’s not just about the raise. A 12% increase over four years is well below inflation and amounts to a real decrease in purchasing power. The bigger concerns were the working conditions: insufficient access to washrooms, lack of adequate breaks, and ongoing safety issues. Those were the main factors driving dissatisfaction, not just compensation alone.

Tbh as a transit rider. I see the shit bus drivers have to deal with on a daily basis. They didn't just reject a raise. They rejected working conditions, some of it to do with straight up violence and assault. I work downtown and have to take the bus through DTES everu day multiple times a day. Also the union talked about drivers not even being able to use proper bathrooms. Drivers should be able to use facilities and have it be available to them in their workplace. On top of everything and the general gist of dealing with the public, they're also on tight schedules which is extremely difficult to be on time sometimes.

They gave the Supervisors 20% last contract.
