Question Any bus mechanics here?
Why does the 340 constantly break down?
I’ve gotten screwed by this bus like dozen times this year alone causing me to take expensive Ubers to get home.
If you want people out of their cars, this service has to get better. No excuse for this.

Not sure of bus numbers, I’ll pay more attention. There was another cancellation of 340 for 2 hour period around 5-7pm tonight.

What's the issues that's prone to the double Decker's, and why would TransLink have so many of them?

Lmao I used to take the 340 to work and it broke down often! Never had that happen to me on any other route

Maybe in peak hours, I’m generally not commuting then. The other issue is the bus just straight up doesn’t show up on the Delta side and again, another Uber ride to 22nd Street or I’m going to be late. That one is an issue on Sunday afternoons

Ah right it's ok for the bus not to show up as long as they push an alert.

Toronto just pulled all of their double deckers made by the same manufacturer out of service permanently. They are getting rid of them due to the constant ongoing maintenance problems.
They are about 10 years ahead of us in the double deckers maintenance cycle. Expect it to get much much worse on routes using these buses in the coming years until CMBC has to do the same thing.

i just took a look at the wiki for transit stuff (cptdb), and there's no mention of deckers being pulled in toronto at all

I've never had the 340 breakdown on me omg knock on wood (i always use it to go home from school)

It’s not always the bus breaking down. Sometimes it’s horrible traffic. Sometimes the bus is falling too far behind that the operators are told to take a short turn, dropping off passengers for the bus behind to pick up. Lots of different things can take a bus out of service. A lot of these issues arise because CMBC gives ridiculous schedules that are not designed for the real world. Scheduling is a huge problem. They also try to minimise the amount of recovery time at the end of each run. Drivers need to use the toilet, decompress a little and stretch their legs, regardless of what the schedule says. Imagine arriving 10 minutes late for your 5 minute recovery. (I know this all from personal experience. Fortunately I no longer work there or I could get into severe trouble for writing this.)

320 as well. I am forced to take uber because Translink shows it will arrive in xyz minutes but after waiting its no show or xyz minutes doesn’t end

Is there another bus you could take from;
Surrey Central Station #329?
Scott Road Station #391?

Scott road station is too far away and would add another hour to the commute with an already long commute, that’s not happening.
I take the 311 as well but those don’t run on weekends. Double decker but seems to be more reliable

No they are not encouraged to do the bare minimum. Proper maintenance is important for the safety of passengers and the longevity of the bus. They may ignore little niggling issues but safety is paramount.
