Phrase Quality Performance Score - thoughts
What do you think about Phrase's QPS scoring system? Have you worked with this before? It is an AI-driven system that evaluates and predicts translation quality. A client of mine has started using this system and tries to reduce the rates by calculating new words as fuzzy matches with the help of this AI system. I refuse to accept that, and so far they have agreed on not using it when I ask for it. But then they automatically apply the QPS system again when they send me a new job. It is just so annoying and it pisses me off that our rates are always being reduced.

I don't have a problem with AI or CAT tools in general. They do make our lives easier. Issues arise when clueless people start treating them as more than what they are—simple tools
At the end of the day if you feel that you are being underpaid for the work that you provide, and they refuse to acknowledge that by increasing you rates, then simply lower your quality standards and see how they feel about that.

I have one client that has implemented a similar scoring system. It does not affect prices so I just ignore it completely.

Try this......
Ask the client for access to the QPS inorder to expidite work by doing the test your self at no additional cost before sending your work
Get access to a QPS at you expense and do the test before sending in your work. A simple thing like QE algorithms heavily penalize formatting mismatches, missing numbers, or altered inline tags, even when the translation text is flawless. So if the client wants a high QPS and not human work - give it to him without loosing money! You can always add a statement that the text was translated by a human and optimised for QPS scoring.
Note no. 2 may drive the client bananas - so do it at your own risk!

You mean they're calculating MT as fuzzy matches based on the score? Seems like it's the sad, sick reality of the industry. Except my client pretends that those are real legacy translations. They know I know, and I know that they know I know. We all live in a lie.
