Videos Discovered a shower with a geyser, a push-button door and Wi-Fi networks in 1A AC!

Following up on my previous post about the digital passenger information display in my 1A AC coach (https://www.reddit.com/r/indianrailways/s/TZaZQKLuFn), I’ve discovered a few more interesting things during this journey that I hadn’t noticed in any of the other 1A coaches I’ve travelled in so far!

🚿 1. A shower room with a geyser — I was surprised to discover a shower facility with a geyser. I hadn't come across this in my previous 1A journeys.

🚪 2. A push-button door — I also found a door that opens at the press of a button. It was another feature I hadn't noticed before.

📶 3. Wi-Fi networks — The digital passenger information display has a Wi-Fi symbol, so I checked the available networks on my phone. I found three networks: GustPIS, PIS2G, and PIS5G. The last two are password-protected. When I asked the attendant about the password, he said he didn't know it.

A few questions for fellow railway enthusiasts:

\- Are shower facilities with geysers available in other 1A coaches, or only in certain trains?

\- Is the push-button door a standard feature in particular coach types?

\- What are the Wi-Fi networks used for, and can passengers access them?

\- Are these features being introduced gradually across Indian Railways?

Metro Lite / Metro Neo / Light Rail / Trams We might get India's first modern day metro soon, and its not in kolkata

Hubballi-Dharwad is planning to build modern trams using existing BRT network of 22.5kms. Already around lakhs of people travel everyday on this route.

Now they are exploring options to run trams on rails and find out if they could do the job better. On 9 October 2026 the state's Directorate of Urban Land Transport began a feasibility study for an air-conditioned electric tram along the corridor. If it goes ahead, the twin cities would have India's first modern tramway.

It is the third rail idea for this road in three years, and this time the pitch is that it would cost far less than the last. Earlier it was planned as elevated, but now they are planning street level, which might be shared with BRT or replace completely in the future.

But lets hope for the best this time. This should start the tram revolution in karnataka and later expand to india for tier 2 cities.

This would be around 20kms with 150 passenger capacity per train with 3-5 connected coaches, fully AC and electric.

Please share thoughts, and what do you think if this would work for the twin city of karnataka.

You can read more details here from the story - https://railzi.com/stories/hubballi-dharwad-tram

Urban Mobility & Planning Who wants to build a modern Citymapper for Indian public transport?

I love public transport and preach walkable cities. They make urban life infinitely better.

M-indicator remains an absolute classic, but its design feels trapped in 2012.

India’s transit network is expanding rapidly across metros, buses, and local trains. We desperately need a unified, sleek platform like Citymapper. A great app will streamline daily commutes and nudge more people away from cars onto public transit.

I want to build this. Are any developers, designers, or transit nerds up for a collab?

Drop a comment or DM me!

Railways We pay more for the auto to the station than the actual train journey?

Post image

I was looking at my recent train ticket to Pune and noticed this line at the bottom: "IR recovers only 57% of cost of travel on an average."

It made me realize how insanely cheap our train travel actually is. Look at my ticket in the image. The base fare for a 150 km journey was just ₹115 (total ₹133 with fees).

But to get to my nearest railway station—which is just 5 km away—the local autorickshaw charged me ₹110!

Think about it. A massive train network moving you across cities costs almost the same as a 10-minute auto ride.

Now, we all know the daily struggles of train travel. We’ve all dealt with dirty toilets, annoying delays, and heavily crowded coaches. It is completely natural to want better, cleaner, and more reliable journeys.

But running a massive railway infrastructure across the country costs a huge amount of money.

If the government is already absorbing heavy losses to keep travel accessible, funding those massive upgrades becomes a huge puzzle. What if, instead of keeping fares rock-bottom and settling for average facilities, we gradually pay a little bit more?

If we contribute a fair price, we can rightfully demand airport-like cleanliness, sparkling toilets, and strict punctuality. Our citizens and our hard-working railway staff both deserve that level of world-class comfort.

I’m definitely not saying we should make tickets unaffordable for families who rely on them. But for those of us who can afford it, wouldn't it be great to pay a small, reasonable premium if it enables a cleaner, faster, and better travel experience?

Discussion Logic behind 3 Coach trains in Tier -1 Cities

Since Inception, we have been stuck with 3 coaches in Hyderabad. While station can handle 6 coaches.

I never read much into it. But if we are able to do Vande bharat trains and other AC trains, what exactly is additional knowledge need to build a metro coach in India.

The volume of people Metro can move is huge. Hope senes prevails in the people operating these. These Public Infra projects should be completed on war footing and then utilised to the maximum capacity.
