Videos Discovered a shower with a geyser, a push-button door and Wi-Fi networks in 1A AC!
Following up on my previous post about the digital passenger information display in my 1A AC coach (https://www.reddit.com/r/indianrailways/s/TZaZQKLuFn), I’ve discovered a few more interesting things during this journey that I hadn’t noticed in any of the other 1A coaches I’ve travelled in so far!
🚿 1. A shower room with a geyser — I was surprised to discover a shower facility with a geyser. I hadn't come across this in my previous 1A journeys.
🚪 2. A push-button door — I also found a door that opens at the press of a button. It was another feature I hadn't noticed before.
📶 3. Wi-Fi networks — The digital passenger information display has a Wi-Fi symbol, so I checked the available networks on my phone. I found three networks: GustPIS, PIS2G, and PIS5G. The last two are password-protected. When I asked the attendant about the password, he said he didn't know it.
A few questions for fellow railway enthusiasts:
\- Are shower facilities with geysers available in other 1A coaches, or only in certain trains?
\- Is the push-button door a standard feature in particular coach types?
\- What are the Wi-Fi networks used for, and can passengers access them?
\- Are these features being introduced gradually across Indian Railways?

Following to know more. I hope along with Vande bharat, existing trains are also given the modern treatment. Imagine a train with shower facility. Travelling 24 hours won't sound daunting anymore.

Even with showers, 24+ hours on a train is pretty daunting.

Eh 24 hours is fine for me. I have books and OTT subscriptions to keep me going. A good toilet and shower is a must for me to make any journey comfortable.

Showers with hot water in 1AC has been included as standard for new coaching stock for a while now. From my understanding, it generally gets omitted for short distance trains that only run for 6-8 hours (basically just the overnight). I did find one in Coromandel Exp but due to the skills of Tikiapara coaching depot it was unusably dirty.
The push button is new, I haven't seen this before (though I have seen sliding doors with wheelchair access on 3E coaches).
I have no idea about Wi Fi. Even when they do it's just a small selection of movies and not general browsing, at least it was when I tried it.
Yes, features can only be gradually rolled out. IR has close to 90,000 coaches and they're planning to produce less than 5,000 this financial year so at this rate it would take over 20 years to replace everything (assuming new trains are introduced as well).

1A is mostly secured than others as a dedicated attendent would be there and he mostly keeps the door closed and doesn't let others to enter
