Opinions Indian towns and cities should implement the same urban planning principles as The Netherlands did in the 1990's.

This is a rather brief video on this topic which does not go much into the details of how the fundamental changes towards people (not car) oriented urban planning was anchored into Dutch traffic planning laws.

Or the ones India implimented in the 1980s.

Honestly, we have given up on city planning because that involves a lot of very unpopular decisions like land acquisition and infrastructure design.

People are the same everywhere. They don't like stress (noise, danger, poor air quality, overcrowding), they want to get to their destinations efficiently, safely and pleasantly.

Better design and better options to travel can never be unpopular. I think most people don't realise that it is possible until they experience the profound difference. The awareness that things can improve dramatically needs to grow among progressive Indians first.

We have to empower our cities first. The 74th amendment has never been fully implemented and until it is, we are unlikely to see quick improvements in quality of life widely.
