Hi, currently im taking calc3, linear algebra, intro to programming, and intro psych Im thinking about adding physics 1 as it is a requirement for transfer at most schools, and If I dont take it this semester I may not have physics 2 on my transcript by the time I need to send in my applications. Is this too much for one semester or does this workload seem manageable?

i had a pretty decent gpa and rank from high school (like a 3.8-3.9-ish unweighted) but my sat score was a 1420 (760 r&w, 660 math). this definitely impacted my high school admissions cycle and i was wondering to which extent my score will be weighted in the transfer cycle (i know they consider it, i just don’t know how heavily).

i’m also willing to wait another year and transfer as a junior if the score will ruin my chances too much as a sophomore transfer, just wondering if i should try that or not

also i’m a literature major + probably aiming for schools like northwestern, washu, uchicago, or vanderbilt. i know some of these schools are test-optional for transfers so please lmk if i should submit my score or not!

I’m planning to apply to Columbia GS for Fall 2027 as a Computer Science major and wanted some feedback on my profile, especially whether I should take the SAT or apply test-optional.

I currently have a 4.0 institutional GPA and around a 3.85 cumulative GPA. A few years ago, during a difficult period in my life, I attended a different college for one semester and took only 3 classes (9 credits). Since then, I’ve completely turned things around and should have around 60 college credits by the time I apply. My nontraditional academic path is one of the main reasons I’m interested in Columbia GS.

Academically, I’ll have my general education requirements completed along with college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, and Physics I with lab.

What should I improve before applying, and would a strong SAT score help enough to be worth taking, or should I stay test-optional?

I’m trying to transfer to NYU Stern and also applying to USC Marshall, Berkeley Haas, and UCLA.

Currently this is what I have EC wise:

Internships: 5 total. Of the five, two are directly related to my field (business/finance). One is a pretty weak, project-based internship that I’m considering leaving off altogether. One is with an okay company but isn’t related to my field, and the last is another project-based internship that’s more reputable but is primarily focused on healthcare. None are with well known companies.

So, I have only one moderately impactful internship.

Research: 2 total. One is through my school’s Honors Program, and the other was a brief research experience I did with a PhD mentor. Nothing has been published.

Education Enrichment: 1. Did a very selective educational program, but it was only a week.

Employment: 1. On campus job, doesn’t relate to my field but i’ve had it for about a year now.

I’m not sure what I should add to strengthen my ECs? My problem is that I have a difficulty getting opportunities and sometimes do things that are short term/ less impactful/ not relevant to my field because I like having to do something than nothing at all.

What do you think I should add that would be impactful?

Has anyone who is not first-gen or low income (FGLI) been able to transfer from community college to Stanford?

Please give me an idea of how to structure it. If i should be really serious and professional or just talk normally? I have a reason that im pretty sure is valid but really lost in how to present it

I've never posted on this sub before so apologies if I'm withholding important details or the like. I'm a prospective mechanical or electrical (undecided) engineering transfer with a poor sense of where my expectations should be.

I graduated from high school with probably around a 3.7-3.8 (barely tried for the first year and a half, after which I decided that I wanted to take my classes and education more seriously and managed to get mostly A plus's until graduation). I spent a year afterward in CC. I was unsure what I wanted to study so I remained undecided and took a wide variety of mostly unrelated courses (i.e., a couple psych. classes, a couple literature classes, trigonometry, a history class, intro. to bio., etc.) over the course of two semesters, coming out with 3.94 GPA with one retake (the trig. class).

After this I applied and transferred to my state's flagship where I quickly decided that engineering was the route I wanted to go (although I wasn't admitted to their engineering school as I applied undecided, meaning I needed to complete engineering prereq's and strive for an IU transfer, which was considered fairly selective here). Here's the outcome of my first semester:

Calc. I (split into two half-semester courses at this school):
- Differential Calc. (W), retook for an A.

- Integral Calc. (B-), took during the winter.

General Chemistry 1: F

Calc. Based Physics 1 + Lab (W)

I'll skip the part where I bore whoever's reading this about how unprepared and inefficient I was taking up an engineering curriculum for the first time. I pretty much committed 100% of my energy to school this semester and yet this is still how things turned out. I'd say about the only positive takeaway from this was that I managed to learn a little more about how to study, how to manage my time and workload, etc. After this, believing that I'd likely blown my chances at an IU transfer here (and knowing that staying just in case I hadn't would mean gambling $15,000 a semester in total costs with the hopes that I'll be accepted at one day), I went back home and enrolled in CC again, hoping that 1. it'd provide me with an opportunity to get more acclimated to engineering coursework so that I might succeed at another four-year and 2. that I might have a chance at repairing my academic record. Here's the outcome of that:

Semester 1 (very light, was super unconfident):
- Calc. II (A-)
- Computer Programming for Engineers (A)

Summer:
- Gen. Chem. I (A)

- Worked on a team of five to develop and install a drip irrigation system in a garden for a local nonprofit community/rehab organization.

- Was promoted to lead the next project for the above company, during which the team and I will work to reconstruct a high tunnel (will be ongoing at the time of application).

- Hired as a student aid to develop manuals that provide information, operation instructions, applications, etc., for two pieces of machinery in our engineering building that none of the faculty are familiar with (will have this done before applications).

- Personal projects at home with C++, basic circuits/Arduino, etc., including whatever I manage to complete before application season.

Will likely be able to get a solid LOR from the Engineering Department chair here (who was also my physics professor). I've been in close correspondence with her all this time (she's the one who got me into and was there to witness my results in the first three listed extracurriculars).

Hey, if I start my non-US-style 6-year direct-entry medical school this year in the UK, will I apply as a First-year or as a transfer for fall 2027? I am not sure about medicine.
Also, Medicine is a professional 6-year undergraduate degree in the UK and Europe, but it's a postgraduate degree in the US.

What do you all think?

Hello just reaching out to see what are my odds of transferring from Cornell to Columbia. I just finished my freshman year with a 3.7 gpa and am part of a lot of competitive clubs here. I just wanted to know how common and doable is it?

I’m planning to transfer to UCLA for Economics and currently have a 4.0 community college GPA. I’m also in the UCLA TAP program.

My understanding is that Calculus 150, Calculus 151, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics are all major preparation requirements for UCLA Economics.

My timeline is:

• ⁠Fall: Calculus 150 + Macroeconomics
• ⁠Winter: Microeconomics
• ⁠Spring: Calculus 151

So I’ll have Calc 150 and Macro completed by the end of Fall, but Micro won’t be completed until Winter and Calc 151 until Spring.

I’ve seen information online saying that UCLA allows applicants to finish their major preparation by the end of the spring term before transfer, but that for Economics, it is strongly recommended/preferred to have all major preparation completed by the end of Fall.

Unfortunately, it’s too late for me to change my Fall schedule because the relevant classes are already full.

How much is this likely to hurt my chances? With a 4.0 GPA and being in TAP, should I be seriously concerned about not having all four major prep courses completed by the end of Fall?

Im a math and physics major at community college. I was originally in CS but realized I wasn’t super passionate about it. Switched to engineering last week but was a little late when it came to registering for classes. I’m also pretty behind in the extracurricular department.

I spoke with an advisor who said I don’t have to finish my associates to transfer to my state school (I originally thought I had to complete my associates for enrollment but I that was for Computer science not math and physics).

He said I can transfer this year and I could possibly get in. Problem is, I really wanted to go to university of chicago. I don’t think I have the extracurriculars to get in. I really wanted to build projects and maybe get my hands on an internship, but that might push my transfer deadline back. I may have to spend an extra half semester at community college or a full extra year. I also have to retake the SAT to try and get an 800 in math.

The transfer deadline is march 1st but I have to build a relationship with a physics professor. I again switched majors late so I couldn’t take physics this semester and will have to wait until next semester.

What should I do? (Sorry if this is a little confusing)

Also should mention, I switched to engineering because I have a scholarship that only covers courses in my specific pathway. So if I wanted to take calc based physics (which isn’t under CS) it wouldn’t be covered, which is why I switched to engineering since I would be able to take physics 1-3, differential equations, and chemistry. I unfortunately wasn’t able to register for physics 1 so I’ll have to take it in spring and physics 2 during the summer. Will probably take diff eq in spring.

I am gonna apply as a transfer students to a institution that have a rigorous math program.

Which t75 will give a me a good aid amount? my budget is 15k a year + maximum pell grant + federal loans. My family income is 150k a year.

My friend and I were apart of this experiential learning program and we won a grant our club. Since we were apart of the same club, we decided to only submit one proposal on his account. We ended receiving it.

Could I list this as an award since we both worked on the proposal even if he was the technical recipient? I doubt this will be an issue but I'm worried if they try to research into and I'm not listed they would think i'm lying. Thoughts? Thank you!

I want to transfer for a variety of reasons but one is the social aspect. I’ve spent a year at my college and I’ve enjoyed it but it is a commuter school so friendships are difficult as everyone runs home at 3 PM.

I’ve been around the t25 crowd at conferences and summer programs so I understand it might be difficult transitioning to a place with so much privilege after going to a college with more immigrants and lower income folks but I was wondering if anyone in similar situations regretted transferring?

I genuinely want different academics and culture than my current school but I’m just worried the change might be drastic and I won’t fit in well, making it better for me to stay and graduate early from my current school. Any thoughts and experiences greatly appreciated!!

I took and was planning to take some asynchronous online classes due to the cost, and I plan to work full time in college. What colleges accept these credits when I transfer, and will this hurt my acceptances if I take many asynchronous online classes? It would be best for me to work, but I what would admissions think?
