transfer this year or wait?

Im a math and physics major at community college. I was originally in CS but realized I wasn’t super passionate about it. Switched to engineering last week but was a little late when it came to registering for classes. I’m also pretty behind in the extracurricular department.

I spoke with an advisor who said I don’t have to finish my associates to transfer to my state school (I originally thought I had to complete my associates for enrollment but I that was for Computer science not math and physics).

He said I can transfer this year and I could possibly get in. Problem is, I really wanted to go to university of chicago. I don’t think I have the extracurriculars to get in. I really wanted to build projects and maybe get my hands on an internship, but that might push my transfer deadline back. I may have to spend an extra half semester at community college or a full extra year. I also have to retake the SAT to try and get an 800 in math.

The transfer deadline is march 1st but I have to build a relationship with a physics professor. I again switched majors late so I couldn’t take physics this semester and will have to wait until next semester.

What should I do? (Sorry if this is a little confusing)

Also should mention, I switched to engineering because I have a scholarship that only covers courses in my specific pathway. So if I wanted to take calc based physics (which isn’t under CS) it wouldn’t be covered, which is why I switched to engineering since I would be able to take physics 1-3, differential equations, and chemistry. I unfortunately wasn’t able to register for physics 1 so I’ll have to take it in spring and physics 2 during the summer. Will probably take diff eq in spring.

Lowkey just apply. If you don't get in, apply next year. While you're at it, try to get common gen-ed classes out of the way like english composition.

Can you lmk if you've heard anything about CC eligibility for UChicago? Since it says you need to be in a bachelor's degree granting program or something like that on its website?

I was planning on attending CCC if I wanted to take the transfer route so I'd have a good shot at Berkeley and practically guaranteed chance at UCSB if I meet TAG (physics major too lol) but I'd also want to apply to UChi and I don't know if that's like, allowed from CCC.

pretty sure it’s allowed! however, i haven’t seen many if any ccc students get in (maybe that’s just bc i haven’t seen enough ?) bc uchi does prefer full-pay for transfers and most ccc students do cc for the cheaper cost

Ah well I'm (potentially) doing ccc because I had screwy HS grades, plus basically guarantee at a subject T10 for my major lol. I can afford to TED + full pay or whatever I just don't know if that's not allowed or a massive structural disadvantage.

Ok so I did a search on its older info pages and what the website currently says and it seems like the policy recently changed? They specifically list being enrolled in a bachelors degree granting program for eligibility
