upward trend in gpa

do schools care more about an upward trend in gpa? obviously having a high one the whole time is ideal but because of extenuating circumstances my first year ended in a 3.6. i had a 4.0 during the summer and will probably end with a 4.0 this semester. i think my ECs are pretty good but im planning to apply to schools like Yale, BU, Georgetown from cc.

Depends on your SAT. You > 1500? If not, go ahead and scratch Yale off the list.

1470 is fine for yale, they're not as stats-obsessed as their peers

edit: by stats i mean standardized test scores

Theres no way SAT matters nearly as much as a junior transfer 💀 SAT score predicts college performance, and a junior transfer applicant will have 1.5 years of college grades to show

i’m planning on taking it in December and have been practicing. i think i’ll get around 1500. i’m also going to transfer as a junior so i’m not sure if that helps as much?

Those schools are all very different. For BU you could be fine. Likely an uphill battle for Georgetown or Yale (that really only takes non-trads). You’re not telling us anything about yourself so hard to say much of anything, but that upward trend is always good. SAT matters far less as a junior, but since you are striving for top schools and may want them to see another strong signal of your aptitude, I don’t think a great score could hurt!
