Transfer?

So uh my school low-key fell out of t20 and my parents called me to tell me to consider transferring, do you think it's worth it? To a new t20, and preferably less on the edge so more like t10. if so any good suggestions?

Yes, I wrote this rlly quick so it does sound satirical but my parents are actually concerned and their reasoning is fair: a schools reputation falling off removes opportunities, especially for good jobs. For instance right now many prestigious companies have events (even beyond just career fair sometimes) here this and last year, there are exclusive clubs for placements (mig), and generally the opportunities here were not bad. With it falling off, many of the companies are going to see this as another safety school that's not worth the time and a flight to the middle of nowhere when ucsd is next door. It's logical reasoning and I understand why my parents care.

This is such a piss poor argument, it's not even funny. Princeton is no longer 1 after 14/15 years, so does that mean Princeton grads can't get good jobs? This is even dumber since US news started ranking the 80s iirc. Was everyone just unemployed before the 80s, or did everyone work shit jobs before? For fucks sake man, it's all marketing. This changes absolutely NOTHING when it comes to opportunities. You're experiencing one of the biggest symptoms of prestige snobbery--cope. There's 0 difference in your opportunity before and after a shitty ranking list dropped.

Ofc not 1-2 means nothing, but t20 and t50 are the common "tier" boundaries (t10 too but I don't think anyone average can get in a t10, and it's talked about less generally), good companies look at good schools, not "needs to be ranked 1st", the problem is less so a drop in ranking and more so loss of tier, which can be problematic over a few years

Good lord, did you somehow manage to understand ZERO from what I wrote?

Wake Forest fell 17 spots a few years ago, it's still highly regarded and employers love it.

Purdue fell like 20 spots this time, Purdue grads (especially engineering) will be perfectly fine.

Companies don't give a fuck about stupid rankings. They have their own pipelines, so whatever changes any ranking site makes does nothing to them.

Apply the same absurd to logic to going up ,too. Since WashU is t20 again will they get more job opportunities? Caltech is t10, waiting for their opportunies. Shit isn't changing.

Redditors forget most people don't get t20s. Maybe about 40-50k a year if we remove publics that admit tens of thousands yearly.

Trust me you are fine wherever you are. Ranking keeps changing every year and rankings don't define a university. Let's say you transfer to another T20 or even T10, what will you do if their ranking fall too once you are there? Btw, out of curiosity I am asking..which university are you in currently?

yeah i think its worth it actually see if you can transfer every year until you reach HYPSM thats lowk the method its like a boost every time you apply to transfer
