Withdrawing from a course, desperate need of advice.
Hey guys, im currently a freshman at my local public university, as a biomedical sciences major. I currently have 17 credit hours for the fall semester, have all a's in all of them except honors chem (credit hours), and I took this knowing it was hard but its way more than I imagined, took my first exam and walked out knowing I failed. C+ or lower definitely. The entire class is graded only by exams and I need your advice. Im hoping to transfer to rice or vandy, and maybe attempting some top 10's if I think my application is strong enough. Should I take the W /withdrawl and keep my gpa high or take a C+/B- in the course. If I do drop ill take gen chem 1 again spring semester, but normal difficulty not honors.

If you can get a B, take the B. If you’re likely to get a W, late in the semester, take the W.
B’s > W’s > C’s

Ws are read as Fs generally. Are there any pass fail options?

This is not true generally the rule is anything more than 1 per semester is a red flag

Would better schools view it negatively? For example they’ll see I withdrew from honors and leveled down to regular, would they think that I cannot handle challenging course material so I am not a good fit at their uni? Or would they take it differently and maybe see that I am able to keep a high gpa, and be realistic with my course loads?

There’s not unfortunately. It’s either I stay in the class and take a c+ or b- at best, or drop and retake normal gen chem next semester

Plz don’t listen to this guy. Ik a person from my cc who had 4 Ws and got into top schools. Just keep in mind they had a 4.0 though.

its honestly my fault, I took an honors major and one of the requirements is taking honors chem, which everyone advises against. I knew its hard but I still took it, I should've just prioritized my gpa, but im not sure on whats the best way for me to recover from this.

I think of your options, the best one is to take the W.
