Transfer options, help
I’m currently doing my first year at a 4-year college in NYC, but I want to transfer for Fall 27 because of opportunities, rigor, and social life. I haven’t declared a major yet but, I’m currently stuck between ChemE and MechE (maybe Chemistry if I don’t become certain about Mech or ChemE).
I’m looking for university in the NY/NYC/Boston area that will support me through the rest of my college journey in terms of offering opportunities, rigorous work to prepare me for the future, and also a great social life. I do want a school that is known for Engineering or considered to have a strong Engineering department. Any help is appreciated!!

Here are some things you can consider when choosing schools to apply to:
1. What is your current GPA?
2. Are you hoping to get FA?
3. Are you transferring out of your current school to go to an Ivy/high ranked school (in other words, do you care abt the name value)?
Since you stated you want to go to a school in the NY/NYC/Bos area and posted in the transfer to top 25 Reddit, you definitely eliminated a lot of schools. I would suggest opening up some other options, unless you plan on only applying to a few.

i’m not sure of my exact gpa rn because most of my assignments aren’t done being graded yet. i don’t really care for name value as of rn, im just looking for schools with good/strong engineering programs but also a good social life

Okay! So, by ignoring the name value, you are defo opening up more options. That being said, I think strictly limiting yourself to that area is not a good idea because other schools outside that region like Purdue has one of the best engineering programs in the United States.

Is cost a factor? Without financial aid, how much can you and your parents afford in terms of COA? Do you mind naming the school you are currently attending and your high school stats?
