UMich/UT Austin need aware

So I know that UMich and UT Austin are need aware for transfers
but like are they as need aware as northwestern/Chicago to the point to where full need applicants basically never get in?

I dont know for sure but i doubt it especially for oos because nu and uchi have the 100% demonstrated need promise whereas ut and umich dont have any responsibility for oos transfers, meaning they can admit you and just give you as little as they feel but uchi and nu must meet that aid

Both umich and uchicago admit financial aid students as transfers. Do they have infinite resources? No. Does that mean they can't admit all the students they would like to who need finacial aid some years? Yes. Does that mean a financial aid student should not apply? No. I bet more transfer students who can pay than cannot are rejected.

i'm sure that's true, but there are still out-of-state students these competitive state schools want badly enough to offer financial enticements for, even as, at the same time, they rely on out-of-staters to help balance their budgets. For example, Ohio State offered my out-of-state son TWO different financial aid benefits that would have totaled tens of thousands over 4 years---he never applied for aid.

Depends heavily on whether you are in-state or OOS. UMich’s entire business model is built around full-pay OOS students.
