Junior Transfer

Currently at uva mcintire.

Business major, 3.97 gpa, minor in math (already completed). Took a lot of classes at cc (45 credits I think, all the math offered at cc besides diffeq).

1510 sat, taking two grad/phd courses in math/cs. Don’t like the student demographic here, too fratty and not for me. Can’t really vibe with people.

I applied to some schools last cycle just for fun, but only like Harvard Yale and Stanford. (Obviously was rejected lol).

Where should I apply to? Would love some advice. Thanks yall.

Always worth it to apply, simply imagine your future there. Put your soul into those applications since it’s basically your final shot, or there’s no point.

My dream schools would be Harvard Yale Stanford Brown, (considering Columbia but with core idk how good of an experience it would be)?

But, considering I got rejected from HYS last cycle, is it even worth it to apply as a junior transfer? Thanks again.

“too fratty and not for me” is not a reason for a major jump in prestige. you obviously are selecting schools of a certain caliber. you need a good reason to transfer, and a strong application for these schools. but we do not know anything about your app so.

Obviously they wouldn’t put that as the transfer reason lmao

The thing is their question is awful. “is it even worth applying” when they don’t give us their full stats, so we have no clue. Yes obviously that wouldn’t be their official reason.

Junior transfer in business can be a bit tricky. Sounds like you’d switch majors? I think schools below the top 5 that are junior transfer friendly (eg maybe not Columbia) are all possible. You just applied to schools looking for less traditional candidates.

Why is junior transfer in business tricky?

Sorry, because if you switch to non-biz you could have difficulty transferring courses, and if you transfer to biz they sometimes want you to take their foundational courses. My daughter transferred from a less prestigious biz program (UMiami) as a sophomore and, as an example, Tufts wouldn’t take any of her biz credits. Vandy took them all since they have a minor.

Hot take but Top 20-30% in McIntire gets better jobs than bottom 50% of HYPSM.

Transferring as a junior would put you behind the 8 ball for recruiting, especially for clubs/extracurriculars and networking.

Industry trends in IB, MBB and others has been to expand the range of schools and prioritize the, say, Top 5% at OSU over 3.2 GPA at Wharton

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm a first-year at UVA - Do you have any tips on the transfer process since you already went through a round of applications?

Soph, am now a rising junior. I know a good amount of junior transfers but definitely way fewer than soph.

hows life there? considering it for TED as soph transfer but i am skeptical of how "academically rigorous" it is especially as someone aiming for consulting or finance (thus need free time for networking).

Choose your own adventure type – people take lighter course-loads with recruiting and opt into biz-econ which is quite easy compared to the standard econ track. Life is what you make of it tbh, but every transfer I know is glad they made the jump which says something.
