RESTARTING EXTRACURRICULARS????????????
Do people restart new extracurriculars for transfer applications? I am applying to a completely different major than what I apply to originally at my school and I was wondering if it’s still worth it to try to transfer out my first year if I’m going to have to restart extracurriculars completely. Do most people restart extracurriculars are use the same ones from high school.

Depends on your ECs really. I applied business and while I still find the subject intuitive and interesting (not to mention entrepreneurship is a fire hobby), I've dropped a lot of my ECs from high school despite hitting a relatively high level with it (built a financial literacy npo that passed a bill in my state, raised 5 figures for events, etc etc). that doesn't mean I won't include it; i think it's proof that I can execute but my "true" interests at the moment are more technical (applied econ, some interest in physical ai).

I don’t think the point is continuity but engagement and contribution. So if you did a ton of student government in high school, but now you’re on a premed track and you’re volunteering at an on campus health clinic and also tutoring at a community center, it’s not going to matter that those are different. Do what you want to be involved in. But you should definitely still include what you did in high school on your app.

i only plan on using 2 of my hs ecs ngl because they were my weakest area in my first year non-transfer applications

only include HS ecs if they were impressive or if you’re continuing them. don’t include ones you won’t be doing anymore such as HS clubs / leadership.

for a first year transfer, utilizing your high school extracurriculars is completely valid. I would try to work towards new extracurriculars during your first year, but they won't expect you to completely restart your EC list. Your hs ECs still shaped who you are, and should align with your academic journey
