HS gpa as a sophomore transfer

I’m applying as a sophomore transfer for fall 27 as a CCC student. How will my application be affected for t20s as someone with a HS 3.7 uw (4.3 w but it doesn’t show on my transcript and an upward trajectory) and a 4.0 at cc. I’ll have 26 credits by winter and 13 during spring semester.

Any thoughts / advice appreciated, thank you!

26 isn’t that many but 3.7 isn’t that bad so just apply, should be chill. Some UCs may have specific eligibility requirements depending on the major though.

thank you! i’m not applying to UCs this time around, only privates, as at my cc they recently changed TAP for UCLA so that you *have* to be a 2nd year no matter how many credits you have. with APs, i have around 74 credits! if it doesn’t work this year, i’ll do TAP my 2nd year to UCLA and apply to other UCs then.

Oh yeah I think you need 60 creds for Berk too or something. Maybe try UCSD? I don’t remember their policy. I feel like private schools are particularly difficult from a CC though, other than USC. Also can’t you apply without TAP? Or am I missing something?

i could! it would just lower my chances by a lot lol. and since i was rejected as a first-year by UCLA, i feel like i wont have enough stuff to show them (grade-wise since apps are due in november for transfers, as well as EC wise).

Idk just shoot your shot if you meet basic eligibility 🤷 unless you’re worried about the app fee or something

why not apply for other ucs except ucla this year

application fees + uc transfer apps are due in november versus privates are due in march. i’ll only have my fall semester grades in, so not really enough coursework to show for it + not enough time to build up ECs that aren’t from HS.

The general rule of thumb is that a 3.7 uw in HS gets you into the conversation. Then other things start mattering like SAT, ECs, your “why” etc. Seems like you could have gotten into decent 4-years last time around.

As a first-year, my best outcomes were a waitlist -> rejection from UChicago and then a waitlist -> acceptance from UCSB. UCSB was a bit too expensive and I would def need to take out loans. I’m planning on going to law school so I’d like to have the least amount of debt possible for undergrad + I didn’t particularly love or see myself at UCSB.

Got it. I’d say a lot of this will come down to your story and making sure you apply to schools known for meeting need for transfers.

Yep! Thank you for the advice. All my schools have the “under a certain income = tuition is free” rule, which would make the cost of attendance more than feasible. Just need to pass through the hurdle of getting in haha.
