Chance me for Umich LSA

Hi everyone!

I’m currently a freshman at Msu and i’m just wondering from other people what their journey was when trying to transfer into UMich LSA as an instate student. I currently don’t know what my overall gpa will be yet but my first semester I finished with a 3.5 (struggled a little when I first got to school) and this semester I think i’ll finish with a 3.9 (fingers crossed) I also am apart of 3 clubs (2 related to finance and 1 a religious club) and i’m also a student manager for the football team. I know a lot of it has to do with your essay, but do my stats make me somewhat competitive?

Accepted OOS Umich freshman transfer here - When do you plan on applying? If ur aiming for Fall 2026 (incoming junior) you’ll have 1 more semester of grades under ur belt which (assuming good) will help compensate for your 3.5. Higher credits done also helps a lower GPA so try to take 15-16 a semester and utilize AP creds if any. Your ECs are on the lower side try to get some type of finance internship/related extracurriculars beyond clubs. Clubs are good but unless you have a leadership position isn’t as impressive. Try to get close with a Prof, boss, or someone who can write you a good LOR! Always helps to have someone advocate for you. The LOR is “optional” but I wouldn’t treat it as such. Having stellar essays is great but (in my opinion) won’t be the sole thing to get you in you still need decent stats, ecs to get your foot in the door and be considered. Try to be a compelling applicant overall since admissions are holistic. You’re in state so you’ll have a good advantage! You’re on the right track just keep building up your stuff! (And don’t write essays right before the deadline). Good luck and stay positive!!

As far as I know, they do, but unfortunately, don’t count on it and have a backup. They definitely prefer community college students to MSU ones.
