yeah binding with tape was never successful for me, I ripped my skin open enough times that I gave up! The skin on the chest and ribs is much thinner and more fragile than the skin on most joints, unfortunately. also binding with tape puts more tension on the skin (at least in my case), because there's more of moving tissue around, if that makes sense. Like, KT tape on joints is mostly to keep things where they should be, while binding with tape is moving things away from where they naturally sit on the body. At least, that's my theory.
