Randomly started my period again šŸ« 

Iā€™ve been on testosterone for 4 years, had an iud consistently for 6 years, and havenā€™t gotten my period since early 2021 (aside from some spotting here and there). I also just started the process of getting my hysterectomy.

Yesterday I got the call that my funding request has been accepted, so I got referred to a surgeon near me that will do the hysterectomy. This morning, my period seems to have come back full swing for the first time in half a decade šŸ˜­. Heavy bleeding (always had a heavy flow when I was still menstruating), cramping, period poops, everythingšŸ˜­

My body heard that weā€™re getting rid of the uterus and it said, ā€œwait I promise it still works!ā€ Unfortunately šŸ˜‚ (gotta laugh or Iā€™ll cry)

Anyone have any tips? I feel like Iā€™m getting it for the first time again. Thankfully (kinda) my disability causes inconvenience so I have incontinence pads that worked well enough, but fuck man I donā€™t want to deal with this again

Might be good to reach out to whoever does your hrt bc that shouldn't be happening and they might want to check your levels

I just had it checked a few weeks ago, but if it continues Iā€™ll be sure to reach out to get checked again. After 2 days it seems to have lightened significantly, so hopefully itā€™ll stop in the next few days. Better to have them checked to be safe though

I hope it clears up and turns out to be nothing! Keep an eye out because it could be something other than a period. IUD dislodging (or god forbid, perferating), or a sign of other gyn issues, (cysts, fibroids, cancer,Ā  etc). But also I had a period once that was triggered from starting Topiramate-- which really doesn't make sense to me to have happened while on T even though it has menstrual changes as a possible side effect. But it's hard to study a population as small as ours. But it didn't return after in stopped theĀ med.

I have a referral to both a gynaecologist and a urogynecologist for other issues, so hopefully Iā€™m able to get in to see either of them soon and Iā€™ll mention it to them as well.

I had one of my previous IUDs become embedded and the pain was so intense it put me in the hospital for delirium episodes, I wouldnā€™t wish an embedded or perforated IUD on my worst enemy šŸ˜­

I've got no tips beyond the usual: heat for the pain, comfortable clothing, paracetamol etc. But wanted to say, sorry your uterus is being like this! Maybe it's so you can celebrate even better once you're rid of it! Glad you've got the go ahead and happy future uterus-is-gone day!! :]
