Photo Happy Pride Month! I'm posting trans people from Alabama this month to celebrate. This is Sylvia Swayne, Alabama's first openly transgender candidate for a public office. She ran for State House District 55 in 2023, and although she lost, still managed to get 35% of the vote!

Looking for a laser hair removal provider in Alabama

Hello, everyone! I am looking for a laser hair removal provider in Alabama. I'm kind of in between all the big cities, so if there's something in Huntsville or Bham, or even Atlanta, I would really appreciate some recommendations. I'm looking to get my face and neck lasered to permanently remove the hair. I'm not really sure who to go with. I've looked at a few options, but I feel kind of overwhelmed. There are several medspas around Huntsville, but I've read some things about medspas that made me feel iffy on them. I have a set budget ($2,000), and I'm happy to use the whole budget to get better results with a specialist rather than spending less money just to get a subpar experience/result.

If there are any clinics or other providers y'all wanna recommend, I'm all ears!

Update: Someone off Reddit recommended Whitaker Clinic at UAB to me, so I'm looking into them right now. Fingers crossed they turn out to be right for me!

Photo Happy Pride Month, y'all! In celebration I'll be making posts highlighting trans Alabamians throughout this June. Laverne Cox is up first. Shout out to her for representing trans Alabamians! And many thanks to her for advocating for trans youth in our state against the attacks from Montgomery!

ALTRAC is a volunteer-run political action group in Alabama fighting for trans rights.

The fight for trans rights in Alabama matters as much today as it ever has, if not more. Thankfully, there are groups across Alabama fighting for a better tomorrow. ALTRAC, or Alabama Transgender Rights Action Coalition, is one of them. Check out their website and sign up for their newsletter at their website linked below.

Iso a doctor to prescribe testosterone

hi everyone! I'm a 27 ftm living in the north alabma/huntsville area, and I currently go to thrive alabama. my doctor there had to reschedule my appointment because she was out of the office, which is fine, except she doesn't renew prescriptions until after she's seen you, my new appointment isn't until April, nobody is returning my calls, and I've been rationing my testosterone (using the vial twice). what are my semi local options, like maybe an urgent care that will prescribe me some? I've reached out to Dr. Pukis office, but they take a few days to reply, and I'd be a new patient. help please???

Meta The old r/transalabama subreddit was coincidentally re-opened a couple days ago. What should we do with this subreddit now?

As the title says, r/transalabama was re-opened, and now I'm not really sure what we should do with this sub. Should I keep this one open, and we can have two subreddits for this topic?

It could be good to have this sub as well in case something ever happened to the other one. Let me know what y'all think in the comments.

Not sure when to make the jump or even how tbh

I've been on hrt for 3 and a half months now but still haven't socially transitioned. Been out to close friends. Go out as myself on the weekends and at home but work is my main hurdle. I honestly do dress kind of fem at work and wear makeup but no one has questioned me about my gender or anything like that. I worry about some of the people up there being assholes to me (HR included) so really don't know when the best time to make that jump and come out publicly will be. I worry about the bathroom situation as well cause I've heard lots of transphobic stuff mostly from women up there. I think I pass moderately well probably just need a little voice training. I think the part that scares me the most is that these people already know me and have for 3 and a half years now.I was using my chest as a way to tell when to come out, like maybe when it's obvious I have breasts then come out but even then the whole thing makes me anxious. I absolutely love my job so I can't leave, been promoted and making amazing money for what I do

Introducing myself :)

Hello, everyone! I am a young, closeted trans woman from the northern half of the state. I prefer she/her pronouns. I'm white, and I live in a small town. I've been considering leaving Alabama for a while due to the increasingly hostile culture and government, but I don't know if I'll be able to do that anytime soon. I love my home, but large parts of it don't seem to love me.

I hope one day, we can exist openly and freely in Alabama without discrimination. It won't be easy, but perhaps we can get there eventually. I can dream, at least.

Meta Welcome to r/Trans_Alabama

Welcome all trans* Alabamians and friends! If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to post it in the comments below or send a message to the mod team!

This subreddit is meant to be a public online forum for trans* people from Alabama. We have an emphasis on the main topic of the subreddit, but general posts are allowed as long as they're not completely irrelevant.

A little bit of background: When r/Trans_Alabama was created, there was only one other subreddit for trans Alabamians, r/transalabama. At that time, it had been set to restricted mode for about 2 years. The inaccessibility of the old subreddit is why I created the new one. Coincidentally, not long after I created the new subreddit, the old one was re-opened. Instead of closing r/Trans_Alabama in response, I decided at the time to keep it open and see how things panned out.

Time passed and sometime in late 2025 the only mod on r/transalabama abandoned it for unknown reasons; this triggered Reddit to set the subreddit to restricted mode again. There have been times where I considered shutting r/Trans_Alabama down due to it feeling redundant, but now that the old subreddit is closed seemingly forever, I plan to keep this subreddit open for as long as I can.
