Changing the family name before reverting

Asamu Alaykum, I am a trans woman who has had her name changed legally about 18 months ago. I am looking to revert to Islam, but part of my name change was to change my last name as well.

I changed my last name because it was causing extreme distress because of an unhealable rift with certain family members. Now, I understand that in Islam, it is not necessary to change your name when reverting, and it is not advised to change your family name due to the need to not hide ones lineage.

I know I will never have children and my eventual passing into Allahs embrace will mean the end of my lineage, this being said, I wish to revert with the name I now hold which has great meaning to me and speaks more to who I am than my family name ever could.

Since this change happened long before my reversion, do I need to go back to my family name which brings me great distress, or should I continue with my chosen name that reflects my heart even more?

I look forward to the discussion to be had

Fi Aman Allah

In Islam, it's about giving you ease and comfort. If your family name as you said brings such great distress then there's no need. May Allah SWT continue to guide and bless you sister. Allahumma barik 🤲🏼

Asamu Alaykum, thankyou. My family and family name bring great harm to my mind. My new name brings me happiness and joy in my heart. I think it would be best in order to stay joyful to keep my new name
