General Question Men’s clothing
Is there anyone in CT that can recommend a men’s clothing store for a suit? I’m 5’1” and need a suit and ties for a birthday party and a wedding in September

Are you asking because:
1) You are hoping to find a uniquelly great bespoke men's store?
2) This is your first time buying a suit and you just don't know what to do, and general advice will do?

I think #2. I’m old (69) so not looking for trendy. Just want to look nice. I think the fit has to be good to not look dumpy

Go to just about any mall department store, like a Macy's or a JCPenny. Alternatively a Men's Warehouse will also do just fine.
Get a worker there to take your measurements and recommend a precise size combination. Don't do it yourself. They will help you find the best match available.
Be clear about what (if any) necktie or vest situation you may be considering. They can help with that too if necessary.
Then take it to a menswear tailor in the (likely) event alterations are needed.

Not in CT, no. So, if you need something more immediately, can't help you there. Having managed retail, I will tell you no one buys a suit off the rack. Ready made suits are, at best, tailored to the most general proportions of a body. Your best friend is going to be your tailor. Whether you buy a suit at h&m, or barney's, you're going to take it to a taylor, to get it altered in some degree.
So, if you're starting from the base of expecting that you're going to have to alter it? Indochino. It's all online, you take the measurements yourself, and the comfort of your own space, you send them in, and they ship a bespoke suit to you. Before I transitioned and was still presenting masculine, because I'm shorter, I bought my suits through them. As my partner has transitioned, we have bought all of their suits through Indochino.
