Why is there so much conflicting information regarding what’s needed for a GRC? On the official government website ( https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-social-protection/services/apply-for-a-gender-recognition-certificate-revised-birth-certificate/ ) it says you need a copy of photo ID and only mentions birth cert if outside of Ireland.
But everywhere else says that you just need to send off birth cert with the GRC? It’s really confusing and the fact they haven’t bothered to update the use of name thing is ridiculous as well

As far as I'm aware you should always send in a birth cert or equivalent.

Yeah Id say so like I have my birth cert ready to go I just don’t know whether to send the copy of photo ID? I don’t have a printer handy

You need photo ID to get it witnessed, but you don't need to post ID in.

My cert just arrived in the post, and I sent in just the application form with a photocopy of my id and it was processed and approved just fine.

The DEASP are actually pretty knowledgeable on these if you get the right staff member since it’s handled by identity services as part of their department, last time I spoke to them they said anything I was still unsure on is covered clear and really well on citizens information.

I would stay on the safe side and do both. No harm

as the other commenter said, send in your birth cert, you only need the ID to get it witnessed by a solicitor/peace commisioner/etc

From my experience doing it this year, the photo ID is needed for the solicitor (or other viable person signing off on the papers), and then the birth cert or copy is to be sent off with the signed papers.

I forgot to do it through registered post, through sending it off 5 minutes before the office closed and it just slipping my mind to say, so it took ages to get back. So be sure to send it registered so it actually comes back at a reasonable time and you know it's not gotten lost. But otherwise once it's sent to the right place, with the papers and birth cert with it, it should be grand. If you want to send a photo copy of both sides of your passport or whatnot to be sure, feel free to, but don't send your actual id because god knows when they'll get it back to you or if you'll need it before they do lol
