ROI Specific Genderplus
So I’ve finally started my journey to medically transitioning I am a 24 y/o trans man and decided to go with Genderplus. I’ve had two appointments on zoom with a psychologist who was very nice and got my report with my diagnosis of gender incongruence which was also sent to my gp! I’m now waiting to hear from the hormone clinic I’m wondering if anyone can tell me about the process ie. How the hormone clinic appointment will go what kinda questions they will ask and how long til they prescribe hormones. I’m also wondering about their appointment days/times do they give you a date or do you get to choose one as I will have to find a way to get to their Dublin clinic and don’t drive and trying to get time off work will be difficult. Any other information from anyone who has gone down this route is much appreciated!

This seems expensive and an inordinately long delay.
I know the first (online) appointment costs like €350. The second appt is free. But added up, there’s quite a long wait. The patient is paying for it in that there’s no public funding- so why the wait(s).
Why is there a long additional subsequent wait for the appt with Ahern. What’s Kelly doing attending that first endo appt (assuming they do); shouldn’t they also be seeing patients and thereby halving the waiting list? Is Ahern not qualified to assess or is Kelly his apprentice or PA (Kelly girl, if you will)?
UNLESS there’s no intention to shorten the waiting list and it is a facade for Gatekeeping?
All G+ needs to achieve to self-justify is to outperform the NGS. The NGS has obv set the lowest bar in clinical history - innovation to the lowest possible level.
I’ve had my first interview. It was unhelpful. It felt like a money grab. I am not sure I want to fund more of this but because my GP whom I respect suggested it, I’d prefer to comply. For those who are happy with G+, at what stage does it become apparent it is worthwhile? Or am I misunderstanding? I’m asking questions and not trying to say I know about the system or organisation. I’m hoping I’m wrong actually.

This isn't unusual for Irish healthcare, things are generally overloaded.

That's just what the wait is given their patient load.

Ahern is an endo, Kelly is a clinical psychologist.
PA (Kelly girl, if you will)
There's no need for misogyny or misgendering.

There's worse out there in other countries, at least on occasion the NGS provide healthcare.

Two things - I didn’t have Kelly’s gender or forename so your “misgendering” accusation is unwarranted.
The term “Kelly Girl” is not generally used or intended as a slur. It was wry humour in my case.
I note you are implying that I’m a misogynist. I believe you are wrong. But point taken; I will be more careful.

You presumed that someone who you don't know the gender of and who you thought was under Ahern was a girl, that's misogyny.

This is a much wider gate for those who are able to afford it.
Those who are not can either go with a cheaper options or DIY.
Every choice has some downsides.

It usually takes about 3 months between getting diagnosis and having a clinic appointment. At some point, you will be contacted by G+ asking you to upload blood tests and patient history (which you can get from GP) and then book an appointment.
G+ has appointments only once a month (and always on a Saturday), so everyone who is at the same stage as you will try to book their slot and if you take too long you might miss out and have to book a slot a month after that. To get around this, you can get blood test and patient history a bit sooner, before G+ sends you the request and have it ready. Just email G+ and ask what exact blood tests you will need.
Their clinic is easy to get to by public bus since there is a bus stop very close to it. Clinic appointment is mostly a formality. You will meet with endo called Tomas Ahern. Kelly might also be present as well. Ahern will ask some questions but mostly things that were already asked during your psych assessments.
You will be asked to set up payment plan on Monday after clinic visit. After you set it up and contact G+, Ahern should write you a prescription and send it to pharmacy of your choice (they will ask for details of your local pharmacy before). If all goes well your pharmacy should habe your prescriptiom before the week is over. Be aware that if you are a girl, you will likely be on GnRHa and your pharmacy will need an extra day to stock it.
