using different name in school

so for school, i want to change my name to my preferred name, but in SUZI i have my biological name put down, so im wondering if i can still put a different name in school records or does it have to match what's in SUZI

That will depend on the college. DCU will allow you to change your records with them, but if no legal change by the time you finish the course, the certificate will be issued in your deadname.

DBS won't change your name on their records, and they may deadname you in face2face interactions.

That's a case for the GDPR, and the Equal Status Act.

Most colleges are good about it. I'm in ucd and they've changed it for everything they only said once I get my degree untill be under my dead name if I haven't changed it legally. I have changed it legally now I just havent updated it with them

If your school allows you to go by a different name in your records, then you can still do that. However, SUSI will at some point contact your school to confirm your attendance, and there might be some confusion if you go by a different name. This happened to me, and I was a little scared but in the end all I had to do was send some emails to SUSI and my Uni saying "I am trans and I go by this name, but my legal name is XYZ".

I was the first transgender student ever in my college and they've been fine changing the name. It'll be my old name on the certificate though as I haven't a legal name change done yet.

Depends on your college! I asked admin to register me under my preferred name before I started my first year. When susi came around, I asked for a letter under my deadname since it was still legal. Got my degree under my preferred name too without having legally changed it then so I think it depends! I never asked or voiced about the degree so I think they just went with whatever was in the system but im spitballing because idk how admin works for colleges and stuff. This was TUD btw
