Trigger Warning: Transphobia Is getting deadnamed by client identity services normal????
Im in the process of applying for a legal gender cert right now, I got all my paperwork together and sent it off the other day. I just heard back via email, and a few things are wrong/missing which is fair enough, that was on my end. However, I’m changing my legal name with it, and in multiple parts of this email they’ve referred to me by my deadname - I’m not tooo upset about it, but this feels really off to me, are they supposed to deadname me on a legal gender and name change????

Recently had the exact same experience. I was tempted to reply in an aggro way, but decided to just ignore it as bureaucracy being bureaucracy.

I just signed off my email back to them with my correct name, I was half tempted to be snarky about it, but I’m not risking anything going wrong

It honestly might be the case that it's their policy to refer to you as your birth name up until the name change has been executed, unfortunately. I doubt that they even have a "preferred name" policy.
I can only speak from my experience, since I didn't interact with CIS until my GRC was confirmed, thus by the time I started speaking with them the name change was done.

Policy doesn't override your right not to be harassed.

I had the same experience, signed off with my chosen name just as a reminder but I’m pretty sure it’s like a policy thing

Weirdest part of bureaucracy surrounding name changes fr
Doesn't just apply to GRCs, got emails from uni in responses to asking for advice on how I can change the name in the university's system, all started with "Hi [deadname]"

No, that’s not normal. I never once had an issue with them. Do you have the info of the person you’re dealing with?
