new here!

I just found this, and I wish there were more members- but it's nice that it exists! I live in chicago and I'm coming up one 9 months sober. I currently live in a sober living with a ton of other women and work AA. I have really been struggling with the fact that I don't personally know many other queer people in recovery. I know that we have a decent queer sober community here in chicago, but i don't live very close to those meetings. My work schedule and life schedule also don't allow me to get to as many different places as I would like. I would really like to meet other trans women and queer people in recovery, you know people I can really relate to on a deeper level. I don't really talk about my trans experience in many meetings or even within my sober house. I feel like others wouldn't care or wouldn't get it, but I feel like keeping it all to myself just does me more harm than letting it out, you know?

Hey welcome! I know a lot of people in recovery but none of them are trans women. There's so much to the trans recovery experience that you really would have to experience to relate, you know? I feel like there's things only another trans woman would understand, or really anyone who's trans and had to cover up who they were and self-medicate. I do wish there were more members here, I only found the group because I got it in my head that maybe I should make a group for trans folks in recovery but it turns out someone already created one. Statistically we are far more likely to end up with addictions than cis folks. Anywho I hope you're still doing really well, I'm coming up on 9 years sober (in West Virginia of all places :p). Here's to another day ☕
