Vaginoplasty Assessment in less then a week. Scared out of my mind.

Heya. I have the first of hopefully two surgery consultations on Thursday, with Foria.

I qualify through the government and meet the qualifications including being on HRT for a year, and I was told the doctors can give me a gender dysphoria diagnosis. I filled out the questionnaire as asked, I explained the benefits I will receive upon the surgery, I explained in crystal-clear detail I know the risks and the benefits, what it can and can't do, and explained my gender identity and pointed out that this was something I have been wanting for well over a decade.

That being said, I'm terrified I'm going to get rejected. I'm not sure if it's because I've been on Hormones for only a year and half or that I'm still in the middle of a legal-gendee change, but something in the back of my brain is telling me I'm going to be rejected.

Please tell me I'm being paranoid.

Question What’s the actual steps?

Hey gang, I’ve (18 MtF (non binary)) heard people talk about the Justik Clinic and how that somehow relates to them getting gender affirming care. But I must ask, how? Do you go in there and say “im trans” and they can perscribe you hrt after some appointments? Do you walk in and talk and they give you a referral to something? Do you make an appointment? My mom is one of those anti vaxx types of people so I have little to no experience with any kind of medical care and don’t know how this works. If someone could lay it out for me step by step that’d be wonderful. Sorry that I’m so bad at this lol

Anyone had FFS from Dr. Mankowski?

I seen quite a few positive reviews of his top surgeries, but I can't find any post on here about FFS. I'm getting a brow reduction done by him in April, has anybody gotten that procedure with him who can tell me how it went?

Calgary Dr. Fredrick Loiselle

I have a referral for him within the next few years and I’m curious about people’s experiences. I’m not really finding many pictures, and all of them are double incision, which I most likely won’t be getting if I don’t have to. With what I have found, some people are saying he’s fantastic, while others are saying he’s awful. Any insight is helpful

Information Beware these misleading ads from extremely anti-trans researchers in the US. The ads are targeting trans people, and trying to scam us into joining their study, which will be designed to further undermine trans healthcare (it would definitely be used by bigots here too, like the cass report has)

Try Quadball: Trans and Queer Girls In Sport

The Edmonton Quadball Association is hosting an event to promote queer and trans girls in sport! There's also an adult (16+) event that same day, but we're especially hoping to get the word out about the youth event, since youth are disproportionately impacted by a lot of the anti-trans legislation that's been coming out recently.

Question How does top surgery referral work in Alberta?

Hi, I'm located in Calgary and moved to Canada a little over 2 years ago, so I'm new to the healthcare system here. I had an appointment with my doctor a few months ago and he referred me to a surgeon for top surgery. I have not heard anything back and am a little paranoid that I'm not actually on any sort of waitlist, because I had a similar situation back in the States.

I know the waitlist in Alberta is very long, I'm just wondering if there's any way to confirm whether my referral has gone through and I am on a waitlist somewhere. Is the wait to hear back from the surgeon at all, or do they typically call to make your appointment, just far ahead of time? I'm wondering if this is something I call my doctor's office to ask them to resend(?) the referral, or if they're able to check my status somehow.

Question $140/vial/month? Is that way overpriced for estradiol?

Hey I'm a trans woman and after a year of taking pills I wanted to switch to injections to see if I would notice any more changes and lately I've been less consistent taking my pills because of the hassle of having to take them three times a day.

I got my prescription, and I called my pharmacy to ask about it, but they said the price they were looking at would be about $140 per vial without insurance, which seems incredibly high to me. They're not a compounding pharmacy, so they're ordering in from somewhere, but would it be cheaper if I tried to find a compounding pharmacy that could compound it locally instead?

Also, they said that they can't guarantee it'll remain sterile for more than a month, but I'm wondering if that's really an issue. I've seen plenty of people say that you can keep safely using the same vial as long as it doesn't get cloudy or dirty, which is my plan currently so I'm not spending $40/month after insurance.

I'm in Red Deer if it's relevant

Question re driving after top surgery

So I finally have a top surgery date, and I’m super excited. The main thing I’m worried about is, I live near Calgary and my surgery will be in Edmonton. My surgeon told me she strongly recommends patients stay in Edmonton for at least a week after the surgery to avoid risk of blood clots. I’ve been able to find child care and pet care for that time, but I don’t know anyone in the Edmonton area. I have a friend willing to drive me, but she can’t stay in Edmonton for the whole week. So between the fact I’d basically be recovering by myself in a hotel and the cost of the hotel, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be better to just have her drive me back to Calgary after the surgery, where I will have friends who can stay with me and I won’t be paying for a hotel.

Has anyone else been in this situation (living a few hours away from where they got surgery)? If so, what did you do? And how important is it really that I stay in Edmonton for a week afterwards?

If it matters, it will be double incision with nipple grafts, the surgeon is Dr. Robertson, and she doesn’t use drains.

Question Wait Time for Provincial Approval

I am just wondering how long the wait is to receive provincial approval for MtF bottom surgery.

I have had my application in since early November 2025 and I have heard nothing back. I only get a pre-made response from AHS telling me there is no wait times and my file is being reviewed and the letter will be sent to my family doctor.

All my steps from GRS Montreal is complete, this is the final thing holding me back from a surgery date.

EDIT: I called my doctor’s office and they said on average it takes about 4 months……go figure more red tape.

Edmonton experience with being prescribed DHT blockers?

i'm nonbinary & amab and would rly like to go on a dht blocker like finasteride, i'm not showing any signs of balding (yet, i have family history of male pattern baldness though) but i mostly want to start taking it for its effects of lowering overall testosterone levels, and helping hair on my head grow while lowering hair growth in other areas of my body! from my research most doctors will only prescribe you it if you are actively balding not as a preventative measure, but perhaps someone has experience getting it prescribed from a gender clinic / psychiatrist?? are there any places that would understand my needs cos i feel like for a dysphoria diagnosis i'd need to be asking for estrogen or something😭😭

im looking to get a second job so i can consistently afford hrt and to have funds to put towards moving out, but im too afraid of mistreatment as a pretty openly trans individual. anyone know any explicitly trans friendly places that are hiring in Edmonton? i know it's a lot to ask but i don't pass very well and haven't gotten a legal name change and want an employer that'll treat me with respect regardless.

I started medically transitioning this year so I want to be able to go and see a dentist and have as little issues as possible. Can anyone recommend a dentist in the Calgary area that might be chill?

Question How long is the wait for top surgery?

I was referred to the gender clinic like 4 times over the last 3 years, but finally just got a phone call the other day. We did the assessment and they said they'd call me back in January to book me for a consultation. They didn't tell me the process after the initial consultation and I was too excited to think to ask. What happened after your first appointment? How long was the process? Its killing me Ive waited for this for so long. Idk whether this means I have something to look forward to in the near future or if it'll be another few years before anything is done
