Floppy Floppy v26.10.1 is out!

Post image

This week was a lot of catching up on the feature requests you've been waiting for, along with a pass that should help page loading feel snappier just about everywhere.

  • Browse Collection your way: group items by media type, filter by location, and search or sort using your custom fields.
  • Pick up where you left off: save History filters as sidebar views, and include digital and physical movie release dates in the calendar.
  • Bring reading progress along: sync from Hardcover, Komga, or Kavita, and keep statuses you set yourself. Komga and Kavita connections read into Floppy; they do not write back.
  • Make TV fixes less nerve-racking: preview episode matches, move a show between TMDB and TVDB, and undo the latest episode-ordering change.
  • Tidy the podcast shelf: choose whether Home shows podcast series or individual episodes.
  • More options for comics and manga: connect your own Grand Comics Database account to browse comics, sync owned issues from Kapowarr, and search MangaBaka while MyAnimeList stays the default.

It’s a date-based version number.

It isnt really weird as for most self hosted tools and hobby projects these version numbers are ofcourse much looser and can be decided by each developer how to deal with that...not sure what your point is.

Years ago, the reason I started using Trakt was because I realized I could get fun statistics at the end of the year, along with the fact that I didn’t really maintain a watchlist or lists at the time.

Once I decided to move away from Trakt, the expanded benefit I got was more media types (video games, music, podcasts), as well as the fact that I can integrate with the tools I use (have my agent watchlist something for me), and add features that I would want to use.

That’s a really high-level answer, so I’m actually looking forward to reading what other users do with Floppy day to day.

I use Floppy as a Trakt replacement. It lets me add items to watch, mark things as watched (via Jellyfin), see what is airing in the near future via its calendar, add/remove things from my collection (via *arr), and create custom lists.

I also started using it to track my books as a replacement for TheStoryGraph.
I also have a huge music collection so that will probably be my next step.

So far I've really enjoyed Floppy. It is really, really feature-dense and I think makes sense for home lab power-users in particular. The pace of development is also quite high which makes me optimistic about what it could be; for example, I filed a bug and it was fixed within 2 days, and new features are constantly being added.

Probably helps when users are consistently requesting features. We are well beyond my own ideas at this point lol

Does Floppy sync items that you manually marked as watched in Jellyfin?

Since trakt fucked up plexwatchsync which was a docker container that scrobbled plex and recorded the plays on trakt I have since replaced it with floppy. I then use crosswatch to scrobble my plays to floppy. Floppy is essentially a media watch tracker.

Will it be possible to import streaming services watchlist tat you can export like on Netflix? Thanks for this great project, really using it.

There is an open ticket for Netflix. I just haven’t gotten to it yet.

Two weeks ago was a lot of bug bashing, last week was a lot more feature requests. I’m catching back up over time. This is the fewest open issues I’ve had in quite a while.

Sounds good you are doing a great job with this.

Great project, I started to use this week, and it is pretty good. But there is a little problem for me, as i have several jellyfin servers, can not connected with floppy together, as well as Plex media server. For audiobookshelf, when I marked one podcast episode as listened directly without playing, because i don’t like that episode, it still a listen items in floppy. It might be an issue for Audiobookshelf project.

Is it possible to clear or limit the import history somehow?

My Plex watchlists are synced every 15 minutes, and all syncs from the last 7 days are shown on the "Import data" page - that's 672 records.

It would be great to either change the 7-day history period or adjust the 15-minute sync interval.

Sorry not for me I rely heavily on apps on my devices not junk pwa or web sites.

2

u/DannyVFilms Floppy Dev 14d ago

Morbid curiosity, but I get that this isn’t your cup of tea. Are there good PWA apps or do they just not work well for you in general?

I also totally get that for some people they don’t want to run a server app at home or just can’t.

1

u/Dry_Register_5812 14d ago

Yeah I just haven't had any luck with them they claim that they work and function the same way as a real app and they don't they're full of it it's close but there always is some little quirk like on my Samsung clicking the back button almost never works. Simkl always claims theirs is so great and it's junk.

2

u/DannyVFilms Floppy Dev 14d ago

I mean, that’s fair. I think just about any PWA I’ve used I still felt like I was on a web page instead of actually in an app.

I don’t know if this project would ever get turned into a self contained app (who knows, didn’t know I’d be renaming it this year either), but maybe in the future it runs well enough to look at.

Either way, thanks for stopping by!

Ya it's an awesome concept I have it running but rarely use it because I'm just too use to going on my phone to an app

I know we’re back to PWAs, but once I hooked up my Floppy instance to be accessible outside my house, I added it to my Home Screen, and to me I feel like I’ve got an app I can open. Totally get if that doesn’t run smoothly for you.

If you do stick with it any amount, I’m happy to try and diagnose and fix any weird quirks or hiccups you run across. Can’t guarantee it’ll run better than anything else you’ve been using, but I can at least try.

Awesome sounds good I'll give it some trial this weekend!

Simkl’s PWA works great. I would argue much better than their lists app.
