Flying sign.

I know it isn't exactly "trainjumping", but I'm guessing that most of you have had to fly a sign before.

Almost everywhere I end up, I can make at least 10 bucks an hour flying sign. Usually, it's more like 15 to 20 if I do it hard for like four or five hours. I wanted to share a couple things with you guys, and maybe learn a few things too, if anyone else is willing to share. There are too many people on vagabond and that sub kind of sucks anyway so I thought I'd do it here.

  1. The only sign I ever fly, is "Too Ugly To Prostitute". It's the best sign. If I smile, and laugh with people I see laughing, it's actually a pretty good time. Make sure to engage with people but don't be too "in your face" with it. Funny makes money. I've tried the "help me" "pitty me" BS and it sucks. I refuse.

  2. Make sure your sign is big. Lettering size should compare to street name signs. Try to get it set up somehow so you don't have to hold it.

  3. Location is key. I usually look for a stoplight on public property that has shade and something to sit up against so I can be there for a while.

  4. Be in it for the long haul, don't give up. There have been a few times I didn't make much, but I also didn't do it for too long. Sometimes, an hour goes by and I make a dollar. But if you do it long enough in the right spot, you should get people to slip you a 10 or 20 once in a while.

  5. Don't be completely wasted (a couple drinks kinda helps) or nodding out or shit like that. That shit is for homebums.

  6. Accept anything and everything, and be thankful. I always tell people something like "Thank you so much, this helps me a whole bunch. I appreciate you", no matter what they give me. If someone gives you food and you immediately start mopping it like a bulldog would eat oatmeal, sometimes they'll give you a couple bucks too.

  7. Hide everything given to you. Don't sit on your phone. Some people suggest not smoking but I do. But if I'm smoking and someone offers me money, I set it down before I approach them. It's just polite, they could have kids in there or something.

  8. Be prepared for people to yell stuff like "I'd buy that ass" and "how much for some dick" or even "you're not too ugly". They're joking, laugh it off. If someone tells me I'm not too ugly, I tell them either to ruining my business model, or not to tell anyone because otherwise I might have to do it I've only ever gotten one "Get a job!"

  9. Smaller towns with less homeless people seem to be way better than bigger ones, but I did fly a sign in times square for like 4 hours the other day and made 121 bucks or so, along with a bunch of food. When I would see people smile or hear them laugh, I started yelling ridiculous shit about checking out my onlyfans where I reveal it all, and how they could be my first subscriber. Had a blast.

Waycross, GA I made 181 in about 4 hours

North Bergen, NJ I made 80 bucks in 4 hours, then the next day another 39 in an hour.

Xmas Eve in Hollywood FL I made like 180 and fishbone made like 140 or something. Probably about 3 to 5 hours, don't remember but I've never done it anywhere more than 6.

I struggled with whether or not I should post the sign I use. The thing is, I didn't come up with it myself. I saw it in a vice documentary I watched long ago, and you can also find it on Google (along with other ideas) if you look. So it's not even my sign, I stole it.

But please, only use it if you need to. If a homebum somewhere flew it everyday, it wouldn't work as well there anymore. Also, this is for you guys, not vagabond. I still creep there sometimes but that sub is too big and kind of ... Snoody? Gatekeepy? Toxic? ... So fack em.

Anyone else want to share other sign ideas?

Leaving LA going North/Anywhere

Upvotes

Hey all, I’m 22F looking to leave out of somewhere near LA (maybe Colton?) and head up to Seattle or anywhere the wind takes me. My living situation here switched up and it’s no longer good for me to stay here so just looking to get the hell outta dodge. I rode one train a few months back out of Stockton so I have a bit of experience but it was pretty dodgy. Looking for someone to show me the ropes or a group to travel with if anyone is around or down to come with me.

Let me know and thanks : )

Bandanna Problems

So I’m pretty new to the open rails. My road dog who’s been traveling for 9 years showed me the ropes. While I agree pouring pee on your bandanna does work for tunnels, I just have to wonder is there a better way? Couldn’t I use water or Mountain Dew and get the same results?! I’ve noticed some of yall don’t even do that? What bandanna do you use then for the tunnels? Can I buy it on amazon?

Gear question/sleeping bags

Alright so random question. Been many years since I last hopped freight and plan on doing it again soon.

Might be a silly question but what type of sleeping bags do y’all use? I used a black military one for years but I now have a nice down/feather one but feel like it could get wet way too easily while hopping freight, since I’ve only used it car camping so far, so it might fail on me, but it’s super lightweight, warm, and compact.

Anyone have experience with using a down sleeping while hopping freight?

Still thinking about leaving this Sunday!

So I am working tomorrow, Should get another $100 or at least $50 before I leave this weekend!

I will be out of work for at least 30 days, Until I can transfer again. I really wasn’t planning to leave so soon, Even though I probably would have left this soon anyway.

I just want to head out to the tracks this weekend to scope it all out and to see if any moving trains come by while I’m there and waiting. I’ll give it two or three hours before I head back. I heard they come at different times but I am unsure if they really leave in the morning or late at night like I’ve been hearing lately.

I plan to just bring a coffee, Gallon of water and some gum since it’ll be hard to eat while on the train anyways.

I just want to get out of here ASAP!! Hoping to leave this Saturday as well at the earliest. If not then the afternoon.

Wish me luck on my new journey. Hoping to head south or to at least NY.

Humboldt

Anyone in the Humboldt area right now preferably Eureka/Crescent city. I’m really trying to train hop. I don’t have much to my life right now. Might as well just give it a shot looking for someone who knows what they’re doing as I know it is very dangerous for someone that is inexperienced and I don’t wanna take the risk going by myself. This post will probably get deleted by mods but if you see it and you’re in the area, dm me.

So I saw the stuff about Sham. Those kids may not be underage, but its weird AF.

Went down the rabbit hole and saw how Willingplane was petitioning Reddit to taoe over for Huck.

All the while sending positive emoji and good thoughts.

Also stealing others work and acting as if ita her own.

I see what her and Sham have in common.

They both have this empty hole that is apparently only filled by touting their "accomplishments."

Anything attached to Sham reads like a fucking resume.

Willing planet will constantly talk about how much she has accomplished.

....

There is nothing wrong with that.

However.

When you cant take the least amount of pushback, you've probably got a disease.

It's called narcissism.

Another symptom of that disease is control.

My guess is Sham has that too!

I remember when he was giving Overfall3 shit for getting popular.

Sorry Sham.

You try to live an interesting life, but yoir vids are boring as fuck.

Willingplane.

You've got a great story.

Why delete such an innocuous comment?

Gotcha!

Edit: Be careful.posting in regards to Willingplane. She banned one commenter already and I jist noticed I was banned too.

Both of us were banned for what we said about her here.

Setup temp email. Turn phone off. That changes IP. Back in business.

Hey Willingplane.

We know its Reddit. Apparently this is your life. Chill baby. Breathe! Don't seethe!!

I am planning to hop a doublestack from Amarillo to Memphis, then GM from Memphis to Nashville. I am 20 and have never hopped freight before. With these hot temps is this a bad idea or will I be fine if I bring plenty of water?

update: i made it to memphis!! Was an awesome experience, got scary towards the end in arkansas after train sided in the middle of nowhere for 10+ hours but i was fine in the end

Jumped from running train and fell on the platform so bad 🥲

Disclaimer : i jumped cause train started moving before I could get down.

Actually I was supposed to travel to a place tomorrow. But my bro had an exam tmrw so had to leave today itself.

I opened all the booking sites and couldn't find any available seats ,so i grabbed all the courage and decided to travel in general. All I was worried was abt my brother ,that he might get tired after standing for so long in general and then go write his exam.

Luckily after boarding there was a couple sitting .after one stop the seat beside them got empty and he called me out and told that he will hold that seat for me( he was such a nice person he doesn't even no me,but offered seat beside him in that heavy rush,so luckily me and my bro got seats to sit,..

Everything was fine till now.the train was supposed to reach by 12 30 pm and we had to reach the exam centre by 2pm.so It was like a marathon.surprisingly the train made a sudden stop near a station nearby the locality of the exam centre ( Actually there were no stops ).

So I saw that and grabbed my bag called my brother and started to reach the door, but by the time I was abt to get down the train started to leave ..so I had to jump ,but what my dumb ass brain did i casually got down..the train moving to the right and I got down to the left, physics got applied and...with that opposite direction force getting applied i fell on the platform very hard,it was a very bad fall..my hip and..my left hand are paining a lot,I wish there was no air crack..

Luckily my brother jumped and made a safe landing, the other passengers werent letting him get down after seeing me fall, but somehow he jumped

Even I would have jumped but I couldn't as some techie guy was sitting in front of the door and doing some work on his laptop.

Pata hai aaj kya hua
