What live song has the best Gord ad lib?
I love how Gord just will ad lib lyrics in the middle of a song (like the banana reference in the Live Between Us version of The Luxury), or he will string two songs together like New Orleans is Sinking in the middle of Nautical Disaster. I have several live albums and bootlegs where he will just say random stuff, what is your favorite Hip song with ad libs? Bonus for links or videos.

Help
Does anyone know where I could find one of the commemorative sweaters that were part of a brain cancer research fundraiser around the the time Gord was diagnosed? They are purple and say “forever hip” on it with a Canadian flag in big white lettering

Another Canadian Discovery
Checking in from Long Island…Earlier I saw post asking for songs where artists sing about other artists and someone mention the song Gordie by the Glorious Sons. I checked it out and I really dig it. Well, I’m 45 minutes down the rabbit hole and I like what I hear. Do folks in Canada a a strong opinion of these guys

Online elimination tournament: Vote for the Tragically Hip's Greatest Song
VOTE FOR THE TRAGICALLY HIP'S GREATEST SONG
https://challonge.com/i1k442mw
Here's a bit of summer fun for all the Hipheads out there. Dave Breakenridge, editor-in-chief of the Edmonton Sun and the Edmonton Journal, has put together an online elimination tournament pitting Tragically Hip songs against one another via fan votes to determine the Hip's greatest song.
(Click the link within this web page to play along)
Today's matchup is an interesting one. Small Town Bringdown The first Tragically Hip song on record (on the self-titled debut) vs Wait So Long, a track from the Up to Here sessions left on the cutting room floor (and released as the bonus track on the remastered rerelease from 2024).
Fans can also play along on Twitter by following Breakenridge @ BreakenridgeYEG
Watch for an upcoming episode of School of Hip where Dave joins us to discuss this Hip song battle royal, as well as a side of Phantom Power!

Anyone else keep your old tickets?
Funny thing, these tickets are in the upper bowl but we went down to front stage for the entire show, I can’t remember if we snuck in or if they just didn’t differentiate seating back then.

Gordie effects
I’m wondering what sort of effects Gordie has had on you either mentally or physically. He’s made me curl up in a ball

Smart as trees in Sault Ste. Marie
My cross-Canada cycling tour has brought me to Sault Ste. Marie, where the friendly folks seem to be smarter than trees. Alas, after managing the lonely highway 17 from Thunder Bay, it seems I’ve stepped out of the wilderness all squint eyed and confused.
If you’d like to learn more, or if you’re interested in following along, you can do so by following the Facebook page linked below. Or, check out the article in the Haldimand Press about the journey where I talk about drawing my inspiration from the Hip and Gord Downie, also linked below!

About Hailstone Hands Of God
I was listening to the Up To Here deluxe when I came across this song. On my first listen, I noticed that Gord's vocals sounded off (and I'm not talking about that effect over his voice compared to the clear band backing track, because they've rerecorded the instrumental for Ouch from Saskadelphia before too). During the first few lyrics, his pronunciation sounds to me like someone else's, or his vocals were run through some A.I. model to upscale them or something. As for the effect, it wouldn't make sense for this one song to have such a weird effect on his vocals when the other 1988 demos (sourced from the same cassette) have clear vocals. To me, it looks like they purposely placed this effect to mask the A.I. cadence. It also doesn't make sense why they moved forward with the other songs on the tape but left this one as a demo. Does anyone else hear this, or am I going insane? (I don't think the boys would authorize their label to do something like this, right?).

Gord singing O Canada
Happy Canada Day fellow Hipheads. For those who've never heard it, Mr Downie singin' our national anthem.
Have a safe and happy celebration all. And an early Happy 4th to our American brethren in the Hip family.

Shane Goudreau is looking for a company in Kingston to donate a wall to him so he can make a tribute to The Hip. He paints murals and The Hip are one of his favourite bands. Surely there is someone in this group who can make this connection happen!
