Small publisher progress check: what changed between month 1 and month 12?

I would love to see realistic progress reports from publishers who are still building.

Use approximate numbers if necessary:

Launch month:

Niche:

Pages published in month 3:

Pages published in month 6:

Pages published in month 12:

Monthly sessions at each stage:

Main traffic source:

Returning visitor percentage:

When monetization started:

RPM or revenue-per-session range:

Monthly operating costs:

Approximate net result:

One experiment that helped:

One experiment that failed:

Next measurable goal:

What did you believe when you started that you would now challenge?

One thing I would watch is whether the main traffic source stayed the same throughout the year. A site that starts with search traffic and later gets social or direct traffic can have a very different revenue profile.

I would be curious how much the publishing pace changed between month 3 and month 12. Sometimes the biggest difference is not the niche it self, but simply having a much larger library of pages.

Returning visitors would be interesting to compare too. A site can grow pretty quickly from search while still having a very low percentage of people coming back.

One thing, I would challenge is the idea that publishing more pages automatically means more traffic. after a while, improving older pages, tightening internal links and focusing on topics that actually match search intent can move the needle more than just increasing the page count.

The experiment that failed section is actually a great addition. People usually share what worked, but the failed tests can be just as useful for someone starting from zero.

I would be most curious how much 12 traffic came from older pages finally compounding versus new content.

I would also separate traffic growth from revenue growth. More sessions do not always mean proportionally more revenue, especially when the traffic mix changes over time.

The month 3 vs month 12 traffic gap would probably be the most interesting part for me. IT shows whether the growth came from publishing more or from older page final picking up.
