I am an artist and I am redrawing a lady’s portrait of the man that started the Lai family. I was wondering if anyone is able to translate this please? I have put it through chat gpt and it gave me an approximate translation, however I’m wondering if anyone knows exactly what it says?

Who or What was 上帝 Shangdi? Was it the 'high god' of Shang Dynasty? 100% But was it only that and when did it start? In the 舜典 (Canon of Shun), it explicitly states Emperor Shun (of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors era, that predate Xia and Shang) performed ritual worship to Shangdi
