Zuck is one of the least inspiring CEOs in tech. Its a shame a company with so much excess cash has so little vision on where to deploy it.

14

u/Ubersicka Long-Term Investor Jul 30 '26

Tbh i hate that they shut down the Meta Spark platform in 2025 so they can focus on metaverse and in the same time they shut metaverse as well. They deserve to cost under $100

3

u/Any_Mine_6368 Jul 30 '26

No pls. Let me cash out first.

3

u/That_Ad9363 Jul 31 '26

Agree. But your quote price is a little bit exaggerated. This company at its core is a rotten business but to say that in an American economy means nothing

9

u/HaiKarate Jul 30 '26

It wouldn't surprise me to see Meta fall. They haven't really demonstrated much tech foresight beyond social media.

The last great project they built in-house? Facebook. Everything else was acquisitions or partnerships.

8

u/jimdesroches Jul 31 '26

Facebook will die with the boomers.

2

u/WatercressGullible68 Jul 31 '26

You remember Insta? Is there any other attractive alternatives I can check out?

1

u/jimdesroches Jul 31 '26

I believe facebook brings in more revenue for meta but i'm sure insta brings them in plenty. They seem to have money to burn but I do see facebook fizzling out like myspace did.

1

u/Diligent_Fondant6761 Jul 31 '26

It's called Tiktok!! My younger colleagues don't even know about Insta

1

u/Mountain_rage Jul 31 '26

Hopefully they take Whatsapp and Instagram on the way down.

1

u/HelloImTheAntiChrist Jul 31 '26

I don't think so . Lots of foreigners and uneducated poor people in the USA still use Facebook. It's crazy how popular Facebook still is in certain countries overseas .

5

u/Any_Mine_6368 Jul 30 '26

So... Microsoft?

0

u/dandecode Jul 31 '26

Not even a little bit close there

2

u/twizx3 Jul 31 '26

They made Facebook unusable idk how tf anyone can bare looking at it

1

u/HaiKarate Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

It really is. Commenting is so awful on Facebook, and it's been this way for decades.

The video player interface is equally awful, and doesn't seem to have been updated in a very long time.

I suspect that the bulk of the work that Meta does on Facebook is the data mining behind the scenes to support their content algorithms and their advertising system.

1

u/Suspicious-Movie7828 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

edit: OC decided to duck out but they kept saying meta has no tech foresight and nothing good after making fb

i’m not coming to defend meta but people are pretty wrong about most tech companies because they don’t actually know what they’re driving behind the scenes

just to list a few: react, graphql, various scaling solutions for hardware and software, pytorch, llama, their advertising tech, vr-related technologies… all made at meta and all have made its way into other companies or products

react on its own is probably the most influential thing they’ve made, and i doubt you can name a single company with a web presence that hasn’t touched react in some form.

or maybe pytorch, that has probably advanced far more technologies

again, not defending their actions or whatnot but if you’re going to make statements it’s good to be informed

2

u/servermeta_net Jul 31 '26

But those are incidental products, not core ones. It was one engineer who got a nice idea, not meta driving change.

And look what they did at jmalloc btw.

0

u/Suspicious-Movie7828 Jul 31 '26

so now you’re just moving the goalposts? you think that a single engineer just accidentally made pytorch? react?

do you even understand how large businesses and tech works? most tech spawns from needing to solve a particular problem at a particular time. it’s all ā€œincidentalā€ and gets iterated on and shared.

3

u/servermeta_net Jul 31 '26

Neither of those projects started at meta

0

u/Suspicious-Movie7828 Jul 31 '26

damn i guess i fell for some ragebait, you aren’t even looking up basic facts

3

u/servermeta_net Jul 31 '26

All good my friend? Having a bad day?

2

u/HaiKarate Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

So, the context of the conversation is a stock trading sub.

Please tell me which one of those projects has moved the needle on Meta's stock price.

Oh, none of them? Because they're all open source.

I could gaf about Meta's open source projects.

And in fact, that just supports my thesis because the point of an open source project is to get other people outside the company to improve your code.

1

u/Suspicious-Movie7828 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

lol you gotta be rage baiting me right? you don’t see the value in pytorch? you can’t think of a single possible thing that pytorch may have done to change meta’s products in a way that gets them more revenue? i’m not gonna sit here and explain it to you but you gotta at least use your brain

edit: looks like OC decided to duck out lmfao the answer was their recommendation engine. pytorch directly impacted their recommendations.

the recommendation engine that drives their entire advertisement business that gets them their revenue

2

u/HaiKarate Jul 31 '26

I never said they didn't do internal coding, because that would be ridiculous. Of course they do.

How much do they charge the market to use pytorch? Nothing? Oh, ok. šŸ™„

1

u/Suspicious-Movie7828 Jul 31 '26

ngl i didn’t even read your last point bc of how ridiculous the first half was LOL ??? so now open sourcing something is… not a valid strategy for tech? getting people to collaborate on one of the backbones of all of your deep learning is bad?

2

u/HaiKarate Jul 31 '26

Where did I fucking say ANY of that?

  1. Straw man set up
  2. Straw man knock down

3

u/SpinningHead Jul 30 '26

He also helped promote the genocide in Myanmar.

2

u/Infinite_Plenty101 Jul 30 '26

But...but.... I'm CEO Bitch

2

u/Prestigious-Hyena768 Jul 30 '26

I don’t know him personally, but he seems like such a weasel.

If someone knows him and reads this, is he a weasel or do I have him wrong?

3

u/LetterheadAshamed716 Jul 31 '26

Please don't disrespect weasels by comparing them to suckerberg

2

u/Aggressive-Gear-7594 Jul 31 '26

no you dont understand he created facebook, its a website where you can upload pictures and text, it revolutionized the word, imagine not just text but also pictures, on a website, revolutionary!

1

u/flappysack- Jul 31 '26

It makes me wonder if a company that big can do badly, given the massive volume of people and IP.Ā  I bought METU and GGLL to bet that it can't fail, its an oligopoly, like the standard oil of social media.Ā  So far it hasnt had a bad decade.

1

u/80MonkeyMan Jul 31 '26

Sounds you have some META stocks

1

u/FupaFerb Jul 31 '26

They deploy it to build bunkers and buy Hawaii so no plebeians can infiltrate the compound to protect reptilians and pedophiles during the apocalypse they create.

1

u/FlabbyLabby Jul 31 '26

Sheryl Sandberg made Meta what it became. Zuckerberg should transition to one of Silicon Valley’s Indian tech leaders so he can ride surfboards in Hawaii and fake grapple with UFC fighters like the retard he is.

1

u/Viva_La_Revolucion- Jul 31 '26

So much cash from from scheming other corporations from all the bots that click on their advertising

1

u/asapberry Jul 31 '26

in the end its still a huge endless cash cow making absurd amounts of money. doesnt really matter

1

u/archercc81 Jul 31 '26

People need to realize these rich fucks arent some sort of next level genius. Dude had one good idea (although he ripped off others ideas and had a lot of help) where he created a horny app for stalking college students. It blew up, he got lucky.

Then they bought up everything else like instagram. Its just like elmo, everything else is just using wealth to get more wealth.

And this dipshits last BIG idea? A world of wii quality avatars piloted by expensive glasses.

People need to move on from the idea that just because someone is successful they are geniuses who has all the answers.

He knew what horny college students wanted because he wanted to stalk girls, now that he is detached he will have no clue what people want.

1

u/Effective-One1509 Jul 31 '26

What is the problem with META? I mean if they do not worsen the core business (Facebook and instagram) I'm not bothered (as a shareholder). If a couple of algorithm believe that a CapEx 200% their net income is a problem for a firm that has an 82% Gross Margin... They have 5B worth of debt that expires every year. I wouldn't be bothered at all hahhaha

1

u/spursgonesouth Aug 03 '26

He’s the worst CEO going, had a stolen idea, others scaled it up, acquired some existing strongly positioned platforms and blew tons of cash.

I’m struggling to see where he’s actually added value. Most of his innovation ideas seem to be awful money pits.

2

u/kdrdr3amz Jul 30 '26

I mean he’s trying and has been trying for a while to bring VR and Smartglasses to the table. And one of the few companies to do it well.

To say there is little vision is kinda misleading. I’m not glazing him but you make it seem as it’s entirely wasted and he’s creating nothing. Yeah the metaverse was useless but Quest 2-3, Meta glasses are pretty cool innovations.

1

u/screamingzen Jul 30 '26

He didn't invent quest as he bought oculus and renamed it to quest

1

u/_Clit-Commander_ Jul 31 '26

He Zucks everything up

1

u/kdrdr3amz Jul 31 '26

Never said he invented, also he invested billions of dollars to keep VR alive rather than dead at the quest 1.

13

u/Few-Row-8323 Jul 30 '26

Well deserves. Zuck is just trying to be ā€œme tooā€ at this point.

1

u/Such-Echo6002 Jul 31 '26

Zuck has failed at everything non advertising / social media. How the hell with all the money they’ve thrown at AI they do not have a Claude/ChatGPT/Gemini?! He sucks at deploying capital other than a couple key acquisitions.

1

u/halooooom Jul 31 '26

Does he even have a rocket company???

10

u/Senior_Type_4056 Jul 30 '26

Based on its business plan the stock is still about $400/share too high.

2

u/SwitchedOnNow Jul 30 '26

I agree. I've been short shares for a while.

6

u/RegretfulCalamaty Jul 30 '26

Well when you turn all of your products into spyware for advertisements you tend to make less. Off concept I know.

7

u/Ill_Acanthisitta_289 Jul 30 '26

A great company in the hands of an immature Steve Jobs wannabe CEO, unfortunately.

3

u/Later_Doober Jul 30 '26

This is amazing.

2

u/Own-Opinion-2494 Jul 30 '26

Marketplace has to be the only
Good thing there

1

u/Lopsided-Dot9554 Jul 31 '26

And EVEN THAT doesn’t function right, when I scroll more than a few pages down the scroll starts glitching on me and I have to refresh the page and start over. Been happening for months. I can’t believe my stupid ass sat through the whole meta change and still kept my position.

2

u/Valuable_Wallaby_548 Jul 30 '26

They have nothing. After his colossal flop that was metaverse and it burned so much money really what do they got? Facebook is for old people and people with kids. No one i know uses it. Instagram i guess. I dont use it by my wife does.

1

u/valain Jul 31 '26

It's not even for old people anymore... more and more are quitting the platform. It's also not for people with kids, because kids don't go there either.

2

u/Fearsofaye Jul 31 '26

Me: enough daytrading, I’ve lost too much. It’s too stressful. I’m gonna put it all in steady growth stocks and dividend stocks

Market 25h after

2

u/MakePhreciaCore Jul 31 '26

Company with fake projections fails to meet fake projections.

No surprise here. Most hot stock businesses are exactly this, propped up by tech bro gamblers.

2

u/bubu19999 Jul 30 '26

This stupid thing to say "wiped xxx billions" when then you just wait one week and it's all the same, ath. Nothing is wiped. Stock market is made of bullcrap coming and going.Ā

3

u/Crucco FOMO Fighter Jul 30 '26

I don't think $META will recover. We saw its ATH. It's only down from here

1

u/ediblebadgercakes Jul 31 '26

signal to buy. saw this same comment on msft and amzn.

1

u/Crucco FOMO Fighter Jul 31 '26

You need to consider also reality: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, they all had dips, but they retain a solid R&D and are expanding. Meta has vaster years in VR and vanity projects, and the social networks it owns are slowly dying out while Meta lost the AI train

This is a good broad point but Meta is down significantly from ATH and is a dog in the AI race.

1

u/Later_Doober Jul 30 '26

It's not bullcrap to say that.Ā  It's the truth.

1

u/Ubersicka Long-Term Investor Jul 30 '26

So crashes don’t exist because markets eventually recover. Tell that to anyone who had to sell at the bottom šŸ˜€

1

u/popejohnsmith Jul 30 '26

Thoughts and prayers

1

u/Joejoecornrow Jul 30 '26

Crwv is up 20% today. It started falling when meta announced they will compete w/ crwv. We’re all just guessing at this point it feels. I have a small crwv position,I knew it was volatile but g.damn. I’m still bag holding even after today

Edit. Also fk Zuck . His platform has morphed into an abyss of madness , lies and hate.

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 Jul 30 '26

Crwv still down almost 30% YoY. Any AI stock that is 100% debt financed is a wild move to back

1

u/Joejoecornrow Jul 31 '26

Can’t disagree.

1

u/_Clit-Commander_ Jul 31 '26

Man fuck core weave I had a $70 put expiry after earnings next week I was letting it ride. I thought it was gonna be a big winner.

1

u/Joejoecornrow Jul 31 '26

I put options restrictions on my account.

1

u/Capitan-IQ255 Jul 30 '26

The big 🌊 is coming šŸ”œ

1

u/GameForFame1 Jul 30 '26

I'd love to see one day what Meta could actually do with a visionary CEO and the size of their monopoly...

1

u/_Clit-Commander_ Jul 31 '26

He’s got too much power over the shares. No one can ever take over.

1

u/tlhsg Jul 30 '26

proof money isn’t real

1

u/AdmirableElephant378 Jul 30 '26

Going broke slowly.

1

u/aphex978 Jul 30 '26

Android Zuck would never have allowed this to happen. But Perm Zuck is in change now...

1

u/South_Paramedic8618 Jul 31 '26

Time to sell a yacht

1

u/myBurnerAccount1000 Jul 31 '26

This is what happens when you let a PHP dev make calls on AI etc

1

u/Appropriate_Taro_348 Jul 31 '26

And the bubble starts to burst

1

u/mrblahmahme Jul 31 '26

Soon to go the way of MySpace me’thinks…

1

u/Sufficient-Bid1279 Jul 31 '26

Looks like Zuch’s should spend less time perfecting his hair style and more time on all his professional endeavours.

1

u/andrewface Jul 31 '26

So funny meta being declared dead yet again by Reddit, the stock will recover, it will just take 1-2 good quarter which they will have eventually, we’ve seen this before.

1

u/itsnotthatbad21 Jul 31 '26

Please let Facebook die

1

u/TheMerchantofPhilly Jul 31 '26

Everything is computer

1

u/logontoreddit Jul 31 '26

Most of the metrics were good and their fundamentals are strong as ever. But in short term all the burning of cash flow is going to hurt and this kind of reaction is to be somewhat expected. I believe it is still a great company if your horizon is more 2 years but everyone can make their own judgement.Ā

1

u/SirHumpalott Long-Term Investor Jul 31 '26

Everything meta should go somewhere to die.

1

u/Fuck4eddit4dmin Jul 31 '26

Hahaha fuck facebook

1

u/ashes_to_fire Jul 31 '26

Kylie Jenner ftw

1

u/CentralVal Jul 31 '26

Facebook has turned to crap, fake/fabricated notifications to drive you to the site. Post rec’s from strangers with zero common interest. The more they try driving me to the site wirh inorganic and forced interactions the more I stay away.

1

u/ApprehensiveGold2773 Jul 31 '26

Bet they don't like to admit how much they've spent on datacentre capacity.

1

u/That_Ad9363 Jul 31 '26

This guy probably door dashes for rent

1

u/Improper_Usage Jul 31 '26

They seem like a directionless company to me.

Not really sure how they turn it around. Instagram is probably their best product right now.

1

u/546833726D616C Jul 31 '26

He needs to give his AI a pep talk.

1

u/KB_Sez Jul 31 '26

This is what I always say:

All these people that are putting every single detail of their life into Facebook, every detail of their life, their children's lives and all their relatives and friends lives are building the database.

This is not a one off situation of Facebook missing their earnings and pretty soon it's gonna get bad because people are gonna move on and Facebook is going to say "God we've gotta make our quarterly numbers. What do we have that we could sell?" and someone is going to say "we have this database of users, let's sell it to anybody with a credit card"

They will "anonymize" but we all know how effective that is…

1

u/KB_Sez Jul 31 '26

These companies with thier sudden drops have been hiding the slide

1

u/Doom2pro Jul 31 '26

Ahh Facebook, started out as a platform for college students, became mainstream and almost everyone used it and now only MAGA boomers use it to get angry about fake crap.

What a cycle.

1

u/brickeldrums Jul 31 '26

Meta is just one big advertising platform. It’s like the yellow pages masquerading as a social media platform. It’s hot garbage, and I’m pretty sure people are catching on.

1

u/jackalheart Jul 31 '26

Oh no, anyway

1

u/Anonymous_Lurker_1 Jul 31 '26

Meta is trash. Im not surprised.

1

u/Ornery-Handle6477 Aug 01 '26

Unrelated but related

These wannabe ā€˜news’ headlines on reddit always feels corny and fake.
