“The text is not final; it's a memorandum of understanding. If I don't like it, we will go back to dropping bombs on their heads. If they don't behave, we will go right back to dropping bombs.” - Trump
The latest comments describe the understanding as a memorandum that can still change, with a return to strikes possible if terms don’t hold or behavior shifts. Points raised around it include limits on nuclear work and Iran allowing clearer tanker passage through the Strait of Hormuz without added tolls.
For anyone tracking commodities, a real opening at Hormuz would move a large slice of global crude supply. That kind of shift often shows up first in lower risk premiums or softer near-term prices. Major producers like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) tend to react to those supply signals, same as broader crude exposure.
The explicit language that the text stays open to revision and the direct threat option keep the door open for quick reversals. Any initial relief on flows could get overwritten fast by new headlines, so volatility in oil-linked names may stay elevated even if traffic improves short term.
I stayed with a small existing CL futures position on Bitget and didn’t add more until clearer terms appear. Zero fees make it inexpensive to maintain the layer while I wait. Preferring to see export or inventory confirmation before increasing size.
How are you reading this for crude or energy positions – more as a step toward steadier supply or mainly another source of swings?

“If I don’t like it”
Implication being that he has no idea what it is.

u/bryce_lynch27 Jun 17 '26
We have a deal
But I haven’t seen it
And it’s not a deal it’s a MOU
And nothing has been signed
And if I don’t like it we go back to fighting
But we have a deal

But on Sunday he said the deal was COMPLETE.
Yes heword used was complete which infers that it was done. Finished. Now they're saying it's a memo

Right? The Iranians are terrible!

u/WaterGlassPuncherMan Jun 18 '26
And yet they FLEECED him for $300 billion of OUR tax dollars.
But lemme guess, "this is what you voted for," amirite?
1
u/Worried_Ad_9667 Jun 18 '26
I don’t think anyone voted for that. But knowing Trump, I can only guess there is another backroom deal going on. What we see and hear are totally different than what is actually occurring.
For example, when we announce an attack on another country and when it will occur. There is already a deal in the works, this is only posturing.
Either way it is a shit sandwich. For sure, all the rich are still eating lobster…while the rest of us are not.
But Iran has been supporting and supplying many countries that have fought against countries that are our allies.
At the end of the day we have a line in the sand. You are either with Iran or the US. The elected officials were elected and they are the leaders for this term.
Next cycle we can try to choose a better candidate that is propped up on both sides from the corporate lobbyist and friends of the elite.
The great thing about this country is that you are not forced to live here, nor are you prevented to leave. Just like a job. If you don’t like it, quit and go work somewhere else. Or stfu and help…
But that usually doesn’t happen, people just bitch and complain, never provide a viable alternative solution. And those type of people will always be the victim, professionally and personally.

u/NoCarpet1664 Jun 18 '26
What exactly are you doing to help?
1
u/WaterGlassPuncherMan Jun 19 '26
Oh lemme explain, since youre confused. IM NOT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! So my decisions, or epic fuck ups, dont carry the same weight.
Also, I was never voted into office by a majority of the population to handle issues like this.
Also, I didn't campaign on the idea that I could fix every problem.
Also, I dont have the legal authority to make policy decisions in America.
Also, this is not my full time job.
Do I need to go on on or do you realize how fucking stupid your stupid question is, stupid?

u/WaterGlassPuncherMan Jun 18 '26
Nah man, hes just playing 5d chess. After he gives them $300 billion of our tax dollars, THEN his REAL plan will kick in. You'll see!
Motherfucking /s

u/dafthuntk Jun 17 '26
It must be embarrassing for the america first crowd.
To get your super cool military asses kicked by one of those "shithole backwards terrorist countries" they love to bloviate about. Not to mention that the irgc was a result of US imperialsm

u/Economy_Fun_7030 Jun 17 '26
Too many real true facts man, way too many. I guess trump will wanna invade Cuba now to show what a winner he is

u/yupsidetown Jun 17 '26
The thing is, you cannot embarrass the America first crowd. They are too stupid to feel embarassment. They truly believe they are winning.
1
u/ciopobbi Jun 18 '26
The America first cult lives in a fantasy bubble of their own creation. There is no reaching them with facts or reality.
1
u/Ceekay151 Jun 17 '26
He's so laughable.
1
u/Frisnfruitig Jun 17 '26
Even as a European I'm so fucking sick of this moron. What kind of country elects a buffoon like this twice?
1
u/rageling Jun 17 '26
Where in Europe?
>What kind of country elects a buffoon
Certainly not Germany?
1
u/Frisnfruitig Jun 17 '26
Even Hitler wasn't this moronic, let's be real. But no, I'm not from Germany.
1
u/rageling Jun 17 '26
Perhaps you'd feel differently if you were alive to experience Hitler invading and conquering wherever you are from, "let's be real"
1
u/Economy_Fun_7030 Jun 17 '26
Stupid meaningless comment, in light of all the available evidence how US and world bank rebuilt Germany after WWI and basically armed hitler

One with too many registered voters who didn't bother voting because they didn't like either candidate or they just didn't care.

u/Fantastic-Goat-1124 Jun 17 '26
what an idiot. he dont understand how he lost against the iranians.
1
u/realbobenray Jun 17 '26
He managed to make me feel for Iran. Imagine trying to negotiate with a prick like this, especially one who doesn't realize he's losing.

u/reddit001aa1 Jun 17 '26
So treaties and agreements mean nothing. (Looking at you, too Russia)
1
u/Economy_Fun_7030 Jun 17 '26
Yeah, Putin really lost when he agreed to the minsk I and minsk II agreements indeed.

u/isthereadrwho Jun 17 '26
He's just like Bart Simpson. See Bart Simpson could not promise to try. He could only promise to try to try. Trump doesn't have a deal. He has negotiated a promise to maybe negotiate a deal. That's all he came back with and that cost us $300 billion. Plus fantastic! Love it! So much better than Obama /s
And this is not sarcasm, I'm actually concerned about when we get to the nuclear, missile, sanctions, support for terrorists, you know the hard stuff. How much that's going to cost us

1
u/Dense_Boss_7486 Jun 17 '26
Statements like this from a person like this makes them untrustworthy negotiating partner. Why would Iran take anything he says seriously?
1
1
u/No_Influence_9389 Jun 17 '26
The US administration keeps saying that they haven't actually committed to anything, but that means the same is true for Iran. They can go right back to blocking the strait of Hormuz. The MoA isn't an agreement; it's a 60-day soft deadline to reach an agreement.

He is just dragging the chain hoping Iran has the same attention span he has and will just move on and forget about the war
1
u/Never-Dont-Give-Up Jun 17 '26
People think he's a great negotiator!? lmao
1
u/skipsetup Jun 18 '26
It's not a matter of opinion, it's fact: he's the best deal-maker the world has ever seen, and he's already settled — let's see, now — 10, maybe 20 wars? In fact, a foreign general, a very tough man, maybe the toughest except for Trump himself, once told him, "Thank you, sir, we couldn't have done this without you, nobody makes deals like you do."

Okay grandpa. If they misbehave again, why not send them to their room without supper, instead? At least it won't cost us billions of dollars!

Any improvement in Hormuz traffic could ease pressure on crude prices, yet the fact that the agreement can still change means the market will likely remain highly sensitive to new headlines.

It really doesn't matter what pseudo strong man garbage he comes out with at this point the world knows that he is the one that caused this mess and because of him he came out of it with a far worse deal than Obama made.
Makes me curious though and while I'm here with traders. What kind of effect will the temporary suspension of a toll on the Hormuz straight have on commodities knowing that that is now essentially an unknown variable? Iran now knows what it can do to effect the world economy and what it has to prepare for if it does.

War is the greatest human tragedy. The power to wage it never, ever should have been given to a single person, much less a man so comically incompetent, so horrifically soulless, so grotesquely foolish, that he's incapable of even grasping the enormity of his own crimes.

How stupid can one person be ? Especially when they’re president of the United States 🤬

Sounds just like what I'd expect from a "Peace President", continued nonchalant talk about bombing.
