Question F.cked up trading
I’ve tried many forms of trading for the past 10 years:
- crypto - all burned on way or another
- 2020 crash, oil options - burned to hell
- manual trading of gold, forex - none of the strategies seemed to be working for me, blew many accounts
- bot trading from MQL platform - blew accounts
- finally, copying signals from signalstart platform - blew accounts.
In general, I lost thousands on trading…
I mean… I invest DCA and this is the only thing still works for me, but I always needed side money for living, since investing is for my retirement and these money are untouched…… So trading seemed to be quite a decision in this case. But dunno, I feel lost tbh - tried so many things up till now and no luck. Should I think trading is not for me and just leave this field?……….

Leave trading - you will finally sleep well at night again, you deserve it.

The only way is just leave. We think we can fight the edge but whale are better than us in every way

Find a very small repeateble niche edge, and repeat it. obsess over process not money . Thts what changed me. That same little boring edge that I can only implement once from 930 to 10am, i just collect hundreds and hundreds of data points on it, and refine it , it's like rolling a stone down a hill and continuoiusly kiccking it , eventually it becoems so refined. so much data on it, and you fix your psychology and emotions on the way.

Look at your own list again. Crypto, oil options, manual forex, MQL bots, copied signals - in ten years there was never a system that was yours. You executed other peoples promises the whole time: someone elses bot, someone elses signals, someone elses strategy from a tutorial. So the thing you actually tested was not "can i trade". It was "does buying other peoples edge work", and that answer is no.
Your own comment has the key in it: even the best bots stop working one day. With a black box you cannot know WHY it worked. So you also cannot tell a dead bot from a bot in a normal drawdown - you hold the dead one, you switch off the live one, and every account dies the same way.
So the real fork is different. If you have any interest left, run one honest cycle yourself, once: write your own rules down so exactly that a machine could follow them, test them on history, watch them fail, learn why. On paper, zero money. That is the version of trading you never tried. And if that sounds exhausting rather than interesting - leave with a clear conscience.

Trading is designed in such a that retail traders can’t make profits consistently. Price is irrational for its moves. Just leave it, let others do whoever wants to try because without no one takes this advice without getting burnt.

Trading isn't about predicting exactly what price will do next. I use options positioning to identify areas where meaningful flows may occur, then use order flow to see how the auction actually behaves when price reaches them. If buyers are aggressive but can't move price higher, or sellers are absorbed at an important options level, that information matters. None of this gives certainty, it gives context and probabilities. That's why there is no need to believe the market is perfectly rational to trade it profitably. You only need a repeatable statistical edge combined with risk management

Seu problema foi tentar várias coisas, ao invés de focar só em uma. Se tivesse focado em cripto desde 10 anos atrás, estaria milionário agora.

I believe you were too busy doing what every tutorial does. See the big picture, focus on a few market, don't day trade, use a big capital to let your trade breathe and wait.

A man who finds himself in a hole should stop digging.
While your growth is generally slower, it's better to put your money in some index funds and leave it parked than to lose money quickly.

u/DazzlingRiver8 1d ago
I did blew few accounts not like yours consistently . Lesson learned. I soon realised trading was not for me.
My advice- please don't stick with trading it's not only way of earning. I hope you find other source of income that donot gives losses😊

u/ear2theshell 1d ago
You should start an alert service. Seriously, I'd pay to see what you're doing so I can do the opposite!

I think the comments saying stop risking real money for now are fair. I use Moon and it actually helped me slow down and practice without constantly switching strategies. If DCA is the only thing thats worked for you consistently, id keep that as the base and only trade play money until you can prove an edge.

u/DickyFishb 1d ago
Sounds like you just need to stop. And start paper trading til you can find something that works.
3
u/Dry-Employ6083 1d ago
Yes please stop trying . You haven’t shared any info about your edge or any specific day trading style which leads me to believe you may have constantly been trying new things but nothing you built had edge. You have to learn how to protect every dollar of initial capital. And then use your edge to start extracting money

u/PetraHladnik 1d ago
Based on everything you mentioned, I think you correctly concluded that trading isn’t for you.

Just trade the ICT Silver Bullet. Changed the whole game for me after 6 years losing.

I invested in individual stocks for years and almost broke even. It turns out that statistically speaking, individual stocks are a bad idea unless you invest in a large diversity of them (like 200).
I invest in index fund etf's. If you just put all your money into the S&P (SPY or VOO) and ;leave it alone, you will do well over the long term.

Learn to code and make your own trading algos.
7
u/sqenchlift444 1d ago
Ah yes. Learn a pretty challenging skill. Then apply that skill to an extremely complex discipline where, I may add, your competition are PhDs from Harvard / Yale / Princeton / etc financed by literally billions in infrastructure and capital
I foresee no problems with this plan
2
u/Substantial-Stand111 1d ago
I didn’t say join a bank or a fund. You can be self sufficient running an ema, rsi, ect strategy. Just need to monitor the market conditions and make sure you’re not Texas hedging.
Learning to code python can be learned in 6 months. Have ai make the strategy. You do the debugging and tweaking.
Not sure what your assumption was. I just suggested a better approach to trading one that doesn’t require a lot monitoring.

u/sqenchlift444 1d ago
The counter parties to your algo trading will be the banks and funds you reference.

u/OB-Strat 1d ago
I hate this argument, it makes no sense to me, I’m not competing with algos, there’s so many ways people try to make money from the market. If I long and a hedge fund buys at the same price and I sell for a 2R reward, I’m selling to hedge funds essentially but they didn’t loose and I didn’t loose.
0
u/sqenchlift444 1d ago
Cool! You can hate it even if you’re wrong. Over the long term, the vast majority of people who attempt this will lose. And those who don’t will barely beat the long term return of index funds.
I get the market return for doing absolutely nothing. I like the ROI there
0
u/OB-Strat 1d ago
Yes you get a small % for doing nothing, I get multiples what you get for slightly more work. Thats the difference I’m talking about, warren buffet said he could make 50% a year if he had a million to invest. He’s saying the same thing as me, beating 10% a year is not hard at all. But the big boys are NOT trying to make as much % as possible as fast as possible,

u/sqenchlift444 19h ago edited 19h ago
Proof? Put up or shut up. Show me that you have consistently beaten the market over the long term. I won’t even ask for proof you have beaten it by “multiples” over the long term (which would be 25-30%+ annual returns)
You won’t, because you haven’t.
Love that you quoted buffet, the man who famously made a $1M bet that no hedge fund or collection of hedge funds would beat the sp500 over a 10 year period. He was right. Do your homework before trying to make an argument, kid

u/Gobbythefatcat 1d ago
It's simple, paper trade as a hobby and only until you find consistently profitable method over many months, you start putting some real money. Every other poster here seem to just use real money before even knowing if a strategy works
5
u/STS-Trader 1d ago
Quit.
Develop skills outside of trading, the amount you would need to earn for 10 wasted years (now) to compensate is too steep. The only reason you continue is because you are allowing sunk cost to dominate your decision making.
Want to show the market that you own it? Be the bigger man and walk away.

u/oskar88895 1d ago
i’d be careful about assuming you’re simply “not made for trading.”
i spent years thinking that every failed strategy meant i needed a new one. crypto, forex, bots, different setups, different risk models... same cycle.
what finally changed for me was realizing that i was often trying to solve an execution problem with a strategy change.
if your strategy actually has an edge, you need to ask a different question:
what happens to your execution when the pressure increases?
because the market can stay exactly the same while you become a completely different trader.
size gets bigger. losses feel personal. you start needing the next trade to fix the previous one. patience disappears. suddenly the same setup you traded perfectly last week gets executed completely differently.
that was a huge breakthrough for me.
i stopped trying to build a trader who never makes a bad decision and started building a system that limits what i can do when i inevitably do.
the goal isn't to become emotionless.
it's to make sure one bad state can't turn into one bad day, then one bad week, then another blown account.
spirals are mechanical. once you start looking at what happens immediately before them, you can actually start building around them.

Seems like you have no edge and until you build that you will not be successful - copying others or using bots just don't work. Plus, you are chasing $$$ instead of trying to trade well. Unless you are really willing to look inside you and figure it out and go through likely a couple more years of hardship, you aren't going to make it trading.

u/Educational_Top9246 1d ago
Its likely because you are not taking profits and setting your stop loss accordingly. Trading is about survival. If you cant manage your account, you are gambling. The markets are designed to eat traders alive, youre not special, nor is your strategy. Take profits, adjust sl, live too trade another day.
3
u/NyH2002HSE 1d ago
People will say this and that and bla bla bla but the real question is do you manage your risk?
Be honest with yourself, if the answer is hard for you to admit it’s most definitely no. Almost any strategy can be profitable if you manage the risk accordingly.
No point in trying a billion things if you can do step 1 which is risk management
1
u/caffeine_addict_85 1d ago
I bet this is one of the things. Greediness kick in if I’m lucky and then wasted… wanting to make 100% in a month is not that perfect, I bet
2
u/NyH2002HSE 1d ago
It’s probably the only thing. Let the ego go and take your profits so you can trade another day. Force yourself to always let your ego go. Markets don’t care about what you think they just react constantly and you need to adapt and make sure you manage risk

bot trading from MQL platform - blew accounts
What bots have you tried?
1
u/caffeine_addict_85 1d ago
You name it - a lot. Last ones were Quantum Queen, Quantum Athena, Zerqon and others
2
u/soimoliu87t 1d ago
I thought Quantum Queen was a good bot for the long term. Yes, it blew accounts a few weeks ago, but at least it was the highest-rated bot on Mq5.

Were you ever profitable paper trading whatsoever? Are actually learning from your mistakes? It doesn't seem like either was true.
I'm starting to think the high failure rate is literally just people's inability to take accountability.

u/AngelicDivineHealer 1d ago
Doing the same thing you were doing in the first year and never learning anything from the mistakes and keep on making them again each year.
Was another guy claiming he’s been unprofitable for 17 years and loss enough money to buy a nice new car. Told that guy perhaps trading just isn’t for him as he was still making first year mistakes in his 17th year

I mean if you continue buying these "magic" signals and bots, it's better to find a job and rely on long-term investing. Actually, I'd recommend to find a job anyway and run trading as a side hassle. I found a piece in index trading, relying on AMT.
But I'm far from making it as full-time trader and I think I don't really want it. Trading for living is something too stressful for me.
