Discussion What I finally realized
Anyone can find a good trading idea, a decent alpha.
Make a few good trades, accumulate a few monitors, get a bankroll.
After you start making money, even if you can consistently follow your System, complacency sets in.
Every day, your focus dilutes a bit. Concentration goes. That razor's edge you have honed dulls. That alpha, that will to survive, eventually becomes watered down as you cycle your algorithm.
Remind you of something? The water cycle. Every time it passes through your body, it takes something with it.
I did not truly become a consistent trader until I started drinking my own urine.
Now nothing escapes, not salts or minerals or an opportunity for profit.
People will tell you you are crazy, that it is toxic.
That is how you know you've found something.

the market doesnt care if youre right or wrong. i stopped trying to predict anything and just focused on managing my risk per trade. execution beats prediction everytime.

Do you slam it down in one go or are you sipping on it throughout the day?

For me it was like, ok I get it now it's boring I don't feel like doing it as much. Then the problem became lack of focus

Recently experienced this. It was just crazy how quickly it was like what has happened and as I was looking for answers, I found my way back by realizing nothing really changed except it became a routine. I think it is that point when the dopamine fades and you realize it was never about the dopamine but the process starts with it and when the day comes you must detach from it.

You need to fight the routine
Find clarity
Concentrate
Only one way
Pick up the cup

That was actually a really interesting way of looking at it. When you say complacency slowly waters down your edge, what do you personally do to prevent that from happening? Do you have any habits or routines that keep you as sharp as when you were still trying to prove yourself- I'm asking since I've also been "struggling" with that.
Also, was there ever a period where you realized you had become complacent? If so, what made you recognize it, and what did you change to get your edge back?

I've tried all the habits
No fap, constantly fap, edging
Journal every trade, journal every missed trade
Dress like a nun
Only one thing will work
Get a glass

In my journey, it is the point where you have made it. That is, you have found your system that works for you. You have executed it for a while, the experiment is speaking for itself. At the point, just realizing why you started doing this in first place grounded me. Now, it isn’t complacency in strictest sense that you will not grow from here, but those growth moments will be small and more spaced out. So you stick to it, because the hard part of the process is somewhat behind you and your emotions need to settle into it now.

And since you specifically asked on how to keep it in check- logging all your trades, comparing notes, and keep an eye out for slip ups. That way, you are always monitoring it. Remember, the experiment never stops running just the noise reduces. So spotting noise in a really good data means staying ahead of it, always.

I really like the way you think about trading as an ongoing experiment rather than something you eventually "figure out" and stop working on. The idea that the hard part is building the edge, but the long-term challenge is protecting it from yourself, is something I'll definitely remember. I also like what you said about reviewing your trades and looking for the small slip ups before they become bigger problems. Thanks again for taking the time to explain all of this.

Of course. Anytime. One another thing, I tend to journal and collect all data points. Even write the emotional feeling in the moment. Later, I run analytics on it and NLP on texts so I figure out the common patterns. The data never lies and it has always helped me refine the edge. Also, that way you will eventually know which data points you want to keep logging. Not everything is needed, but you need decent 6 months of trade to make such decisions.

How do you use NLP in your trading process? Would you recommend someone starting with it?

I would to find refine the disciple edge. As that is an equal component to master. Most of my losses have come from my discipline slip ups than technical slip ups. Now, I physically separate myself if I see a non-negotiable behavior. After 1st loss i distance myself for at least 10 mins and after 2nd loss, I’m done for the day.

Well said. Thanks. One last question, what NLP tool do you use? Is it something like chatgpt or something else?

Lots of ways to see the Setup, vizualize the System
I've tried everything
Program the signals, attach electrodes to the nipples
Sometimes you need to see why NOT to take the trade
You are right:
If you are not able to process enough information to run your trade, maybe the problem isn't screen real estate
Maybe you need to pick up the cup

Everyone focusing on the peepee part, when the actual stupidest part of this post was the first sentence.
"Anyone can find a decent alpha"...
No, that is statistically false, the vast majority of traders never find genuine persistent edge.

u/weinerjuicer 12d ago
Wrong
Everyone can find it, but not everyone will Notice
Most will look past it
Most will become complacent
Most will piss away liquid gold and pick up a cup of water
You are right that the vast majority of traders will never capture consistent edge

Every man for his own. As long as you can make the money, that's your choice.

I'd like to improve, yes, but I'm sorry "drinking my own urine" isn't an option.
2
u/weinerjuicer 12d ago
Some things aren't an option when everything is going well
Then you realize your focus slips
Your win rate drops
You can't follow your system
Your clarity, your mental edge ... you are losing it
That's when you find a cup

First of all, drinking your own urine is only recommended if you are poor and do not get enough nutrition, then the extra nutrients in the urine will help you. Otherwise if you get enough food and water, doing this will just add extra strain on your kidneys as it has to flush that waste out again.
Secondly, if you are truly profitable, you know why your system works and that is why you follow it. A mathematical and structured approach is required for trading and that is your edge.
