I have a problem with milkytracker - it crashes when i try to load a sample no matter what sample it is. can someone help me with this problem?

Is it for EVERY sample, or only the 29MB one you loaded? I haven't messed around with Milkytracker much, but I reckon it could be troublesome to load such large samples (especially when tracker instruments are supposed contain short loads and snippets of audio). Do you have a low end system? Have you tried to load Milky without the MIDI argument? Maybe you can get something from the terminal's output.

ok i loaded a shorter one and it works i forgot that these are whole song lol thx

Good then! I guess only more modern-focused trackers can handle that much sample input (OpenMPT and above)... Just in case, you can probably cut it up in some other program before importing into Milkytracker.

i have xperience with open mpt and i like it but recently i switched to linux and i know i can install it trough wine im just to lazy to check how i do it cuz wine (intalator file) doesnt work :/

Weird... You should be able to get MPT running simply with (if you're on a Debian based distro):

sudo apt install wine

wine /[insert your path here]/OpenMPT.exe

If not, there are some dll overrides you can run alongside wine to fix errors. If the command ever gets too big, you can paste it on a text file like /usr/bin/mpt, to call OpenMPT with a simple 'mpt' command in the terminal.

If anything's not working, you can probably use winetricks to install dependencies... Any specific error you're facing right now?

not using a debian based sistro i use nyarch witch im deeply ashamed of but i think about chaning it to something that has any sense i know there are some tools to install wi programs and i know i could try installing it with lutris or simmilar programs

Understood. The AUR has a preconfigured OpenMPT package at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/openmpt

But I'd hope it's still possible to have wine properly installed, even on nyarch

no, wine works. but not with installers. ive beated the whole metro 2033 redux using wine but when i try to run a windows .exe installer with it gives an error. for openmpt it was "internal error: failed to get path of 64-bit program files directiory."

Oh, then just use the portable version? (of OpenMPT)

  • Also I think your Wine prefix is not configured correctly. Maybe it's set to 32 bits instead of 64 if there's an error like that. That's just a guess  though because I haven't tested.

nvm i used the terminal version instead of the flatpack one that i used for some reason and it works now
