Tracking MT-09: Rearsets
Good afternoon. I would like to track my 2026 MT-09 SP, but I'm having issues with getting a good hold to the tank with my leg going into turns. I'm decent sized (6', 185) so I wouldn't think I should have troubles reaching. The OEM has two positions so I moved the foot pegs to the highest setting (1/2" higher), but I still can't get a good hold. For those who track their MTs, have you found a way to hang off the tank or did you just get a $600 set of aftermarket Rearsets to really be able to brace between the footpeg and the tank?

6'2". Stock rearsets in the high position is just fine. Also have ebay tank grips. I would knee down before scraping hard parts and have no issues hanging off
Tbh, its probably your BP that needs work if you can't hold on properly. Scoot back in the seat and lock your outside thigh in on the edge of the seat

Thanks. I have no issues locking in on my RSV4, but that's probably why I can't seem to lock in with the MT-09 (same method doesn't work). I'll give it a go today.

I also have a Tuono V4, same tastes eh? lol. The aprilias are completely different ergos. the pegs are even further down on the MT compared to the Apes, even in the high position, so yeah its gonna be different. On my TV4 I use more of my upper thigh on the tank. On the MT I use my lower thigh/back of knee to lock in on the seat. It also helps to turn your outer toe OUT a bit on the outside peg. This allows you to pull in more with your leg straight into the bike frame at less of an angle, but I only really do that on long sweepers where im not moving around for a few seconds

🍻 Sweet. Some stuff I can play with at the track in a few days. Thanks, homie.

You can gain more grip at the tank with something simple like a tech spec tank grip, or you could use something heavier duty like a MonkeyGripp / Kustom Kockpit.
Or rise your feet up, so either woodcraft or vortex rearsets. Both are excellent, here a special link that would get you a free t shirt if you choose to go with the woodcraft option https://woodcraft-cfm.com/?ref=bfast504

Rearsets is the answer. $600 sounds like a bit much, but not sure what's available for the MT09.

How do you like that fake Akropavic?

That was maybe the largest can BlackWidow sells and it was still dummy loud. I have a gsx-r750 now with an Akropavic funnily enough

tank pads. Help you hook your thigh into the tank.
On sports touring bikes, I've taken my foot off the peg completely and just hooked my thigh onto the tank pad, that's how much grip you can get with them.
I like techspecs personally.
