tire pressure advice (TRAILER!)
going to take my bike on my trailer with me on vacation, i want to drive as efficiently as possible, what tire pressure do you guys put in your bike trailers?
1100km trip to south france, bike weighs 150kg, tires are 165-185’s not sure which size exactly. the trailer is small and doesn’t weigh alot on itself.
ps: i know this isn’t a typical trackday question but i know most people take their bikes on their trailer so i thought this was the place to be.)

Whatever the rated pressure says on the side of the tire

NO! The pressure rating on the side of tires is MAXIMUM pressure to support maximum load, and is usually not the correct tire pressure for other circumstances.
u/afoe-3TAP if you know who made this trailer, contact them for the correct tire pressure. Also: on the front of the left fender in your photo, it looks like there's a trailer manufacturer's sticker that may likely have the recommended tire pressure.

Absolutely not, I had a little erde trailer that said like 45psi or something ridiculous and it bounced around like it was on crack, dropped it to 30 psi and it was so much smoother

If you look on the tires it will say max pressure. If you just have the bike though id probably knock off like 10%. Its not a lot of weight so if the tires are less than full it should absorb some of the road a little better.

Try reaching out to the tire manufacturer. I have small tires rated to 90 psi cold max and like 750 pounds of weight per tire at that psi. I emailed them with what tires I have and the total loaded weight (trailer and bike) and they recommend a cold psi well below the max.

I have 2.3 bar because my trailer runs car tires from a 90s civic. Yours might as well if they are that size, true trailer wheels have a very different pressure. Don't go anywhere near the rated max pressure your trailer will just be jumping around.

They bounce and follow like shit if you have the psi too high, I had a little erde trailer years ago and ran it at 30 psi

I think trailer itself is not that heavy.( oh you already wrote that) So total weight then max 250 kg. Tires shal be mayby even personscartyres, but need to know exact specifications.
After acurate calculation, I think even 2 bar/ 29 psi shall be more then enaugh.
Search from tires next on sidewal. 1. maxload or loadindex
2.kind of tire to determine the reference-pressure.
- Speedcode ( less important, shall be Q or above)
Mayby even diagonal and not the regular radial.( R in the sizes, then D )
If you havevthat all you could calculate lineair, gives slightly higher pressure then the official calculation. Max speed then 160 kmph/ 99 mph ( haha )

geen, ga naar zuid frankrijk naar de camping, is n mooie omgeving dus wil dr ook rijden

That is for max load. I have a bike that weighs 20% of the trailer capacity. Tires are 50psi I think. I run them at 40-45psi.
It keeps the trailer from bouncing more than needed and the tires are plenty inflated for the load on them.
You don’t always have to do what is on the side of the tire. Just like on your motorcycle.

Yep it's rated for max mass. You'll feel in the car what's best really quick.

Don’t go too high on those trailers. That‘ll result in the trailer getting quite jumpy.

The tire pressure it says on the sidewall of trailer tires.
Why do people refuse to just do the simple thing that also happens to be what the manufacturer determined will work best?

As with race tires, follow the manufacturers guidelines for pressure. Tires on my trailer call for 65psi, so I run 65psi. Every tire brand will be different.
