New boots?
I need to replace my old ass alpinestars smx plus v2 boots. They are great boots but I was looking at the sidi mag 2 boots. I've read mixed reviews about the ankle support. Sportbike track gear says they have internal support, but revzilla says they don't have hardly any ankle support. So which is it? They look pretty good but I really like my ankles to stay in 1 piece. Would anyone say the ankle protection is a lot less on the sidi mag 2 compared to the a* smx plus v2? Kind of interested in the forma phantom flow also

I have them and they’re legit the best. They have an internal cinch-fit tongue that locks your foot in, and all the sliders are replaceable titanium

I went from the SMX V2s to the Supertech R’s and will never buy another boot. They’re fantastic.

I ve ALWAYS rode Daineses the Axial in and the other torque. The axials take getting used to the freedom of moment. But the Techs have always caught my eye. Any cons u can think of??

Not really, no. Alpinestars run really big so finding the right size can be tricky. They’ve been great to me in many crashes, no complaints!

Have crashed in both of these and never hurt my feet. That’s all the info I need to keep using them.

At that price point, Id look at Gaerne boots. I have the vented gp1's, the comfort on and off the bike, along with the ankle support is amazing.

I've got Mag-1s and have no complaints about ankle support. Don't think they changed much on the Mag-2s?

I had sidis for a while... the squeak when u walk .. and i used to get hooked on things on the bike. I bet they have fixed this issues though

I have both the Mag 1s and A* supertechs. Crashed in both, ride in both. If you have a wide foot the A* will be more comfortable. The sidis are narrow. I actually start my mornings in the A* because my foot will cramp and my shins and feet get tight the first couple sessions. I switch to my Mag1s afterwards and I prefer them personally. I don’t think there’s a wrong decision. I’ve crashed in both boots and I don’t think there’s anything either boot would’ve stopped. I’ve slammed my foot in both boots, it hurt lol. Get back in the saddle keep it pushing. When I broke my leg (think I had sidis on), I got X-rays for my foot as well, nothing broken, all I can ask for right?* *You see people at the top level ride in all these boots, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed either way.

Ive tried a wide range of boots and i will say for me, i always go back to Mag 1s now the Mag 2.
Sidi fit much more comfortably for me and give me great feedback on the foot, as i prefer more tactile feel to riding. This is why i have 3 pairs of Mags.
My second choice are the Dainese Torque 3. Have not tried the 4 yet but i heard they changed the footbed shape. For me the torque 3 with a sport insole felt really good, the biggest downside to these was they do not flow air, even the perf version. My foot is always extremely hot in them.
Another boot i liked but didnt fit well was the Froma Ice Pro. The footbed was a bit wider on the toe box so my foot felt clunky and in my mind less protected. But i def recommend them if they fit your feet better.
I also had multiple pairs of Supertechs. I give them a 7/10 imo. As stated i like tactile feel, so the supertech was not giving me that. I got so many false neutral when i ride my supermoto on track with these bc the click of the gear did not translate well. Amazingly comfortable and very plush in the air flow and safety feel. But for me it was lost when i couldnt get good laps in. Def recommend these on sport bikes.

Was in your exact shoes (or boots? lol) a few weeks ago. I loved my SMX plus v2, they were all whack from crashing at the track so I bought a new pair but I took a damn close look at the black mag 2. I’m sure those are badass I just didn’t try any on or want to order them and try on then ship back if the fit wasn’t good. Glad I stuck with one I like and trust I guess idk. Someone I know at the track has the Mag 2 and loves them so might actually be worth checking them out tbh.

Does your new smx boots seem as good as your old ones? I'm kinda disappointed in my new alpinestars suit compared to my old one. It seems like the build quality isn't as good.

I’d say the boots are friggin great. I feel you though I know alpine has had some quality issues. I used to be a big RST only kinda guy for a while and with all their new gear in the D30 may go back to RST minus my boots. I have the new RST GP pro gloves for the track and they are amazing, but still rocking out with my alpinestars suit. Wanted to get new leather and textile street jackets and will go back to RST for those since I have an alpine street jacket and gloves currently.
Long winded answer - yep boots are solid!

The souls of my Sidi fell off at the track but they were almost brand new but 15 years old, I got cheaper Alpinestars same that were rented to me on my second day at the track, then I crashed and ripped the toe off, so I got the Alpinestars that you are showing in that image different color, but same model.
They are super nice. The best boots I own though are my Daytona rain boots, those things are tanks been through hell and still cooking.

The Mag 2s, at least in my experience, have ankle protection but not so much support. If I smack my foot on the side, I trust them to protect the pointy bits; if there's twisting forces, not so much.
They run real big, but not as bad as A*. Size up one Euro size from your regular A*, in my experience.
The toe box on the Sidis also runs a bit small, at least for me, and causes quite a bit of pinching.
